Since we already have a post-brexit thread (started in 2016) I thought it might be interesting to discuss some of the important 'pre' issues. One that has been on the minds of quite a few is... will it actually happen?

    Please discuss.

Have you tried the brexit at Franklin's in Austin? Sublime! You do have to get there pre-dawn though.

Everyone has been saying that Boris Johnson is a very charismatic politician so now it's time to prove it. He has gone through a lot to get to power but it will be shortlived.
Will he cling to it until the last second until he is forced out OR will he show some political savvy and call the elections on his own in his own terms?

So far the more time passes, the more inept he seems to be.

He went to Whales to campaign for the byelections but instead of meeting the people waiting patiently in the rain, he just made a short official visit and left without even talking to the farmers who have threatened with acts of civilian disobedience with the upcoming 40% tarrifs on sheep meat that mean their economical catastrophe.

He went to the dam that is about to burst and the near evacuated area, and he tried to pass as an engineer saying that it will hold up.

His new cabinet is full of crazies like Priti Pratel, Liz Truss and Dominic Raab.
He has completely alienated the moderate base, almost like inviting them to vote against him and cooperate with the opposition.
He is going left and right promising spending billions of money and cutting taxes and pays no attention to the financial sector when they tell him they don't have money to spend.

His closest confidantes are people who have even been charged with showing contempt to the Parliament.

So let's see now if he has the balls to call elections on his own or will he wait to the bitter end.

His visit to Whales was indeed very important.

Boris Johnson has always been only about Boris Johnson.

Still, he is the lesser evil compared to Corbyn.

There is divide among experts if the queen can sack Johnson when he loses the confidence vote and refuses to resign.
Here is from the UK's guardian :
    https://www.theguardian.com/politic...en-sack-boris-johnson-the-experts-are-divided

Here we see another example of the disadvantage of not having a proper consitution written down into laws.

The usual excuse for the UK has been for centuries the same : that they don't have a constitution so they aren't tied down by laws and can innovate on the go.
It took now politicians to be extremely unreasonable pushing the situation to the extreme for the situation to burst from the seams.

What is a democracy without a consitution?
It is a polity without any protection from political tyranny.

Perhaps, it is because the UK's democracy has had it more easy in its history, compared to other countries that had to go through many hardships with dictators, authorative kings , puppet governents etc that it didn't feel the need to protect itself?

I am a simple person without real knowledge of the law and political science and stuff but that's my hypothesis.

In which modern developed country with parliamentary democracy we have a leader, NOT voted by the people, threatening to prorogue the parliament, refusing to resign, to get his way?

How can the UK have the audacity to even judge China with the Hong Kong situation when what is going on right now on their own soil is the same?
It would be nice to assume that the UK will now learn it's lesson and establish a real constitution but that doesn't seem to be even remotely close.

I also blame the citizens of the UK.
A democracy must be protected by the people themselves first and foremost.
You think this thing could happen in France? There would be riots in the streets and Paris would be burned down.

Meanwhile the average Brit just shrugs their shoulders, and try to cope with black humour.
They had it coming and they deserve what happens to them.
Remainer or Leaver you can't just allow an unelected leader to do what he wants against the will of the people.
And the will of the people in a parliamentary democracy is expressed by their elected representatives = the MPs.

Leaked Brexit Document Depicts Government Fears Of Gridlock, Food Shortages, Unrest

Britain would face gridlock at ports; shortages of medicine, fuel and food; and a hard border with Ireland if it left the European Union with no deal, according to a leaked government document.

If it happens, they will get over it, it is not like it was during WWII, it would build character as they say.

Boris Johnson could soon be forced to resign as prime minister and make way for Jeremy Corbyn

Boris Johnson could soon be forced to resign as prime minister. Here's why.

Johnson became prime minister in July on a promise of taking the UK out of the European Union on October 31 with or without a deal.

But this week that plan collapsed after opposition members of Parliament passed a law designed to force Johnson to seek a three-month delay to Brexit.

If opposition parties refuse to give Johnson an October election and if he decides he cannot break his promise to deliver Brexit, then Johnson very quickly runs out of other options.

Earlier this week, one senior minister told The Times that under those circumstances Johnson would opt instead to resign as prime minister. His official representative on Friday repeatedly refused to rule this out when asked by journalists at a regular briefing in Parliament.

In this scenario, Johnson would step down and make way for opposition parties to form a government instead. Because of the defection of Conservative MP Phillip Lee and Johnson's decision to oust 21 Conservative members of Parliament this week, the prime minister no longer has a working majority in the House of Commons.

If Johnson did resign, the queen would have little choice but to look to opposition parties to try to form a government. Johnson would then become the leader of the opposition, and a new prime minister - drawn from the opposition - would take over.
