Woke this morning to my wife telling me she was in severe pain. She had blisters on her neck and I took her to the hospital and they said she has shingles. For those of you who pray, please do for her and her health.
Shingles suck really bad. My wife (a nurse) contracted them from a patient of her's a while back. She ended up having two bouts. She never had the blisters, though, which are more painful. She was still in a lot of pain, though. The ER doctors misdiagnosed her because they wouldn't listen to us, and she never was treated and had to ride it out. Best wishes to you and your wife!
My aunt had shingles. It can be extremely painful. The skin's sensitivity increases tremendously. One night she was sleeping and was bothered all night by a pain on a certain part of her leg. It turned out to be a piece of thread or something. She's pretty much over it now, though. It's weird how something innocuous like the chicken pox can manifest itself as something so harmful in adults. Best wishes for your wife.
that sucks. no real treatment except to get the vaccination before hand. i hope it resolves quickly without and after effects.
shingles is the aggressive cousin of chicken pox. I suffered from a case of shingles as a child, having sensitive skin issues. it started as a rash under my armpits and it is extremely uncomfortable and painful, not to mention contagious to the touch. it ended up being an entire band around my torso and I dont remember how we treated it, but I dont think it is deadly. it is most common in children and the elderly. steroids ought to do the trick. best wishes to your wife in her treatment and recovery
My uncle had shingles all over his back, it was real bad. took him over a month just to feel well again and more time to heal the wounds.
I learned about shingles in my microbiology class. It's the chickenpox virus, but lays dormant in the nerve endings of the lumbar area till it is triggered.
