I need to buy a powered mixer for a small to medium room set-up. I'm looking for 6-8 mic inputs and at least 600W bridged.

I will be using it for a dueling piano show where the emphasis will be on having clear vocals over the two pianos (which are actually electronic keyboards). Sometimes I run a bass drum mic through the system, but that's not important for my needs.

It seems that Mackie is a good bet, but I'm also constrained financially. So, I'm hoping for a suggestion on what may be a good value based on what I can spend. I don't really want to spend over $600.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've heard their studio monitors before, and they might be the best sounding speakers I've ever heard. No experience with Behringer electronics, though.

    firecat -
Over the past 10+ years, I've owned over $25,000 worth of Mackie equipment including every unpowered mixer they make up to and including a 32 channel 8 buss. Behringer (and many other companies) cost less than Mackie because frankly...that's what they are worth.

IMHO, if I were in the same market as you, I'd seriously consider gently-used Mack gear over just about anything new from the less expensive brands. Mackie makes a pretty bullet-proof product that will always have an after market value if/when you decide to upgrade.

EDIT: Sorry I can't provide any specifics...I'm at work and will check back later if you are still in the decision making mode.

Thanks Gater- That seems to be good advice. I have found a guy that is selling a Mackie 808S that he is asking $600. It's used but in very good condition from his description. It's local, so I can check it out before I buy which is good.

I'd like to have something before this weekend which takes some of my options of waiting for the best deal. We'll see how it goes.
