Given cap issues and lack of trade bait, I think it is pretty clear that we will not be able to obtain a top tier Power Foward that most of us on CC.net wants However, this does not mean that we should just sit and continue to get abused by other PFs on the boards and have them lite us up daily. We simply must have a more creative approach. SOLUTION We duplicate the success of Seattles "two headed monster" (Reggie Evans/Danny Fortson) with players like them (cheap/accessible). Afterall, Seattle is 22-6 now and play in the tough Western Conference against the likes of Duncan, KG, Brand, Amare etc. as well Reggie Evans 23.8 mins 8.4 rebs! 6 pts 54% FG Danny Fortson 18 mins 6.2 rebs! 9 pts 52% FG Combined for 42 minutes, 14.6 rebs!, 15 pts Plus, their biggest attributes do not show up in stats which include tough defense, energy, hustle, setting screens, doing the dirty work
And if we could acertain precisely who these fine, up-standing players are...I'm absolutely certain CD would sign them .
I like the idea. The problem is our lack of roster space and plethora of guaranteed contracts. We can't afford to let our 3 PFs who are making truckloads of money sit and just get paid to do nothing. Plus, our scouting staff has not yet proven that it can find diamonds in the rough. It's a nice idea, but implementing it is just too hard.
Agreed. Was about to type something along those lines but I wanted to see what other people were saying first so you just saved me some time. Bottom line is we need guys that will rebound and do their best to defend---areas that certainly aren't Taylor or Howard's strengths. PF is such a strong position in the league. Everybody, including Fortson/Evans, are getting burned by PF's all across the league. It's pretty much unavoidable. We just need guys that can put out more of an effort in those categories.
I liked how Weatherspon actually played last night backing up Deke...he could bring energy to the 4 if we really need it and i still think he should deserve a shot to bang down low.
Yeah...but too bad he got injured though so it seems like there wont be any playing time for him...but what do I know
Strained calf - he left during or after the 2nd quarter and Bill Worrell stated that he wont be back...they didnt mention him again so I dont really know how serious it was. They did mention that he had a problem with his calf from the very start of the season.
Mo's best opportunity to be moved dwindled away when the Nets signed Moiso. They considered taking on his contract with the TE they own. Don't know how serious they were, though. I would have GIVEN them Mo for free is they'd take him. Heck, I'd give them any/all PF we have just to rid the contract(s). We could sign Rodney Bias or Thomas from the NBDL and get as much production.
There are a lot of great atheletes that play PF that can't really jump but could get rebounds...remember Barkley?
Let's accept that Howard, Taylor, and Spoon are not the answer. We are better off getting rid of them for nothing, than keeping them. The longer they stay, the longer we suck. Their very precence on the roster just leads to misery. Pay to unload them and move on.
Well, Spoon isn't exactly Charles Barkley---to say the least. The point is Spoon's getting up there and his body is starting to show it. Things likely won't get better in that department from this point on.
Still a better defender and rebounder compared to our 4's right now. He doesn't have offense but we don't need that all the time.
mo, gaines, ward, bowen, padgett + second round pick/s for penny hardaway. penny's contract expires next year while mo has two more to go. the downside is spoon + penny would account for 22 million of next season's salary.
How would this fix our problem at the 4? He's just another tall point/shooting guard. We have enough of them to start 2 teams.
it'll allow the rox to sign a pf in the next free agency and it moves mo's contract without giving up a first round pick.
Howard is redundant on this team. His post presence is minimized here but might be valuable elsewhere. The rest of L still know he can put up 17/7 given the touches. Trade him when his trade value is still there. He's not going to get better at this age. The longer we wait on him, I'm afraid the lower his value will be. MoT and Spoon's contract will be up soon, they can be traded as cap relief for other teams. IMO Howard should be traded for an sf(under 30 please) right now, who will give us flexibility to acquire a pf in the future, or become our future sf. Barry and Wesley are just short term bandaids. More power to CD if he can swing Howard for a young sf with potential.
