I've noticed that these bars are high in carbs? Does that mean they aren't good for you because of the carb intake?

Um, if you look at the food pyramid, carbs are at the base. Complex carbohydrates are a great source of sustainable energy. If by 'good for you' you mean weight gain, then just look for one with low sugar.

They could spike your blood sugar. The blood sugar low after the spike may cause you to eat another powerbar.

Actually you are wrong because when you don't eat your metabolism shuts down. Eating 6 small meals promotes weight loss much better.

Its amazing how you can rack up so many posts on just smart ass remarks. Do you ever have anything that is of substance to say?

Hey, leave him alone. I love those "DEEZ NUTZ" posts he has from time to time. Or maybe all the time.

I almost bought one of those the other day, I'll have to try them out. I'll eat the bars every once in a while, but don't make it a daily thing because most are fairly high in sugar. If you're looking for a daily meal replacement you're better off with something like a Myoplex shake.

Power Bars are not good for you because they contain a large amount of high fructose corn syrup. Most protein bars a loaded with sugar and hard to pronounce chemicals. There is nothing healthy or natural about them. In fact you would probably find more nutrition in a Reese’s peanut butter cup.

You may want to check out FoodTV's website. They had a 'Good Eats' show that discussed ways to make your own healthy power bars.

There are nothing wrong with carbs as long as its high fiber and made of whole grains.

You want to avoid refined sugars which rules out alot of bars.

But bottom line, Power Bars aren't "bad" for you, but you certainly could do better.

I eat one Odwalla Bar! for breakfast each morning. They're better than pop-tarts and filling.

My doctor said eating a power bar in place of breakfast or lunch is perfectly acceptable. If I could usually eat healthy otherwise. Salads, protien meats, no breads.

But that was for me. From my doctor.

    mmmm, Reese's peanut butter cups...

A lot of the carbohydrates in energy bars are complex - oats and such - but, if you're one of those people who completely avoids refined sugars, there's some of that too. It's a good source of vitamins and minerals because they add them all in there. Of course, the whole concoction was pretty much created in a chemistry lab and would probably outlast a nuclear attack.

I just don't like their texture. I got sick of them a while back. Also, I can replace breakfast with one, but replacing any other meal with it might be kind of hard to take. It's still just one bar. At least replace your meal with peanut butter cups or something... because they're so good...

I always felt Power Bars are for people who work out and want an extra boost of energy and protein. I don't think it's a meal replacement.
