Similar to Kobe, there is already a big Rashard thread and I don't want to derail it .... but I'm starting a thread to discuss each PRP that I do so this is more about the profile. http://www.clutchfans.net/ http://www.clutchfans.net/news/1407/rashard_lewis/
As enticing as it sounds, we need a PF that can rebound and play D. Would love to have him, but don't think it will.
I'm against the signing of Rashard Lewis for this team. Losing Battier and JVG in one offseason is a huge blow to our defensive mentality, which is what allows us to compete against teams like the Spurs. Neither McGrady or Lewis can defend opposing 2 guards, and both of them prefer to pull up for jumpers rather than attack the basket. For the price we would have to pay, I don't see Lewis being a great fit for this team.
personally i dont think we should trade battier for lewis. too many intangibles would be lost. yes this guy does disappear during playoffs but this could change under a new coach.
His shooting numbers this season are pretty much exactly the same in regular season and playoffs. He didn't disappear, just had the usual ups and downs all 3 pt shooter go through. Still played excellent defense, just didn't show as much because his guy really didn't go at him. Utah didn't have big scorers at the 2 and the 3... and the Utah 2s and 3s tend to go at TMac off cuts rather than Battier.
LOL @ people being reluctant to trade battier for rashard. and LOL @ conceding "yes this guy does disappear during playoffs" and still not willing to let him go as if the dude is untradeable. i bet some people here would be more willing to trade tmac than battier. the biggest weakness of this team is that we have TOO MANY roleplayers, and people are actually getting their panties in a wad at the idea of giving up one (admittedly the best) role player to get a VERSATILE NBA STAR. outside of tmac and yao, everyone on this team is incredibly one dimensional. it would be nice to start getting some versatility here, instead of a bunch of one trick ponies.
Getting Lewis would be a great acquisition because McGrady would now have a friend to hang out with when each of them go down because of their annual injuries.
I agree with this...but at the same time we won't have a defensive stopper anymore. I'm sure we can pick somebody up who can guard just as good as battier though.
Back on Topic has anyone ACTUALLY thought of how potentially Lewis would fit into the system in terms of touches and offensively? Mcgrady and Yao averagely take quite a few shots. If you do a quick case study of the other BIG 3 they all have a passive shooter, at least thats what i consider them to be, Richard Jefferson, Caron Butler, Tony Parker. Can Rashard even do that? shoot less shots average 20 on an efficient play? I haven't watched much Seattle games to tell. Can anyone else enlighten me?>
I love Rashard, but doing a sign-and-trade for him would eliminate the possibility of bringing Chauncey Billups as a FA (<a href="http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=130440">see thread/poll on this</a>).
Lewis does shoot less than 20 times a game, and very effectively. I remember reading it here, maybe in the other thread, that he's been averaging around 16 a game?
As I've already mentioned in the past, I don't like Rashard's game. I am not a big fan of the way he plays. He's a soft 6'10" player who likes to camp at/near the 3 pt line. If I was to pay that kind of money for a third player on the team, I would MUCH rather get a true PF or a true PG. Here's what it comes down to: would you rather pay $12 mil per for a 'hybrid' who can't pass or play a lick of defense just because he's a "hometown guy", or would you rather spend that same money on a guy like Billups? For the MLE? Welcome home, Rashard! For near-max money? Thanks, but no thanks. Of course, if they throw Nick Collison into the trade then I am on board
sorry my sentance was r****ded. I think I meant shoot less but still average 20 points a game? That would probably mean get to the line more or be more efficient on the three shooting. I don't know his game honestly. Does he drive? does he camp? all the highlights I've seen of him sees him shooting 3's all the time. Is that all he does??
I'm no expert, but last I checked, at the 3 that's pretty much limited to Artest and Bowen. ...And no, I don't want Artest on this team.
Trade Battier & Sura for Rashard Lewis (maybe Head if necessary). Draft Sean Williams and hope Adelman can keep his head on straight. Sign a waived Steve Francis to the LLE. Sign Morris Peterson to the MLE. Re-sign Jake, Deke and Chuck, and talk Bonzi into exercising his option (as well as exercising in general). Try to keep Spanoulis but if he is whining, let him go and keep JL III. If Spanoulis wants to stay, cut Lucas to avoid a log jam in the back court. Yao / Deke / Williams (used as PF as needed) Lewis / Hayes / Howard McGrady / Snyder / Novak Peterson / Wells / Head Alston / Francis / Spanoulis (or JL III) I've tried to stay away from the board during all this trade speculation, but for some reason I felt compelled to throw out my dream scenario...well, dream scenario within reason I guess.
