The other night I was discussing with a friend about Darius Miles potential. Personally I think this guy has HUGE potential....he can be a top 5 SF in this league in a few years. What do you guys think? Do you think he is just an overatted player who is simply a DUNKER and an athlete with no basketball skills? Or do you think he can really be a great player in this league?

Miles can become a very good player in this league and still has lots of potential - he just needs to develop a jump shot.

Without one, he'll just be an athletic specimen to block shots and dunk the ball. He'd have a good career, but not great.

With one, he could be one of the best SFs in the league.

We'll see how things develop...this year will be big for him.

He's going to have to develop a deadly 3pt shot, before he'll be a top 5 SF.

He hasn't shown the j yet. How many "develop" one at this level ? I think big men are more likely to "develop" the j - plenty of g-sfs have come and gone, or come and stay, that never get a consistant j, in part 'cause they can't get it off. Think Karl Malone and Hakeem Olajuwon - then Think Jason Kidd. .
He not only has to find the shot, but also the seperation. I don't see it - that's a whole different skill set.

He has the athleticism to get the separation and I think he will develop the shot. He came out of highschool which is why I think he can do it, he hasn't filled his potential as much as players coming out of college.

He can run Jump. . has coordination.
Good for a swing man . . but he will not be all world until
he has a shot from beyond 15

    what are his 'handles' like?
    Passing?

I have not seen enough of him to say

No future in this league. Potential 8 points, 7 rebounds player. I just don't see the talent. Sure he can run and jump. No J...nothing.

Clips shoulda given him up for Baron or Andre...sad.

Darius Miles is overrated like nothing I've seen before. Sure he can turn out to be good. But as far as I know he has not shown any potential on offense. On defense he aint that great either. You guys remember that sick ass move Francis put on Darius?

Like everyone else is sayin, i think he could be a top SF in the league, but definitely needs to develop a J, maybe more importantly even three point range, to be an effective SF nowadays, ya gotta be able to shoot the three, he's already athletic, he's a slasher, could be a Robery Horry type player, even better with a deadly shot!:D

Here's what worries me about Miles. In his rookie year, he played more and put up better stats than any high schooler since Kevin Garnett.

Then, in his second year ... he didn't show any improvement.

To be fair, Tracy McGrady didn't show much in his second year, either. But most high schoolers make quantum leaps in each of their first few offseasons (Kobe being perhaps the best example).

If Miles doesn't make "the leap" this summer, it's time to put up serious red flags.

Rockets03--Remember the sick moves Steve pulled on everybody? Damn that guy is sick...

Darius can actually handle well for his size and his passing skills aren't too bad. He'll be a good player but never a top 5 SF. He won't develop his J, I just don't see it happening. Now someone to look out for is JASON RICHARDSON...He is more athletic and strong, has handles developing, plus he improved his shot immensely during last season alone. When he came in he could hardly shoot and by all-star break he was starting to scare me...He's gonna be good...

maybe, maybe no. (Sorry, I couldn't help myself)

I remember Rudy was really high on him and Mike Miller the year they were drafted. Then again, so were a lot of GMs.

So you're saying he'll either be Kevin Garnett or Eddie Robinson...

Eddie Robinson is a fair comparison for Miles. He obviously is athletic as hell, but his dribbling, passing, and shooting skills are as bad as any SF in the NBA. In fact, he might have the least basketball skills of anyone in the NBA.

Miles showed some potential as a rook, but last year, he did not improve his game one bit. Until he adds a mid-range jumper, a better handle, and some passing skills, the guy will be a backup for life.

    Just for kicks
Other than Jason Kidd and Avery Johnson [neither of which is automatic if left open.]

Who all, in your opinions. . . .*HAS* developed a Jumpshot
    after coming to the league?

Uh, that means they haven't. Check out Kidd's shooting %. I dunno, maybe Karl Malone? Was he money outside his first few years in the league in the perimeter?

Also many players coming out have a college 3 range but no NBA 3 range and develop that through the years.

Plenty of people. Gary Payton would be one of the most famous examples.

    Karla developed a J
    Payton did it
Rasheed had an allright J, now it's pretty automatic
    Jordan did it
    Dominique did it
    Barkley did it

Miles has no reason not to. Another guy who should seriously work on his stroke this summer is Kenyon Martin.

What are yall talkin about? Miles has sick handles, and he is a good passer as well - that was one of his strongest suits coming into the draft. Don't compare him to Eddie Robinson, b/c Robinson cannot dribble like Miles.

All Miles has to do is work on his jumper... he's not just some athletic freak
