I don't remember seeing a specific thread for this, so I thought I'd make one to discuss it.

Scottie Barnes just signed a max, $270M over 5 years deal with the Raptors, so that may set the benchmark for Sengun's cost if you think they're on roughly the same level right now in terms of current production + potential.

Jalen Green is tougher to figure out--on raw potential he could live up to a max deal, but he has not shown as much as Sengun or Barnes at this point.

You also get into locker room stuff when you talk about this--if, for example, Sengun is offered a max extension and Green is not, does that create chemistry problems? Does that affect your decisionmaking process?

Should the Rockets extend Sengun and/or Green? One of them, both of them, or neither of them? How much should they be offered? Discuss.

(Perhaps I should have included options for "only one of them for less than the max" on the poll, but I didn't want to go too crazy with the number of choices.)

*Neither of them, let them both go to restricted free agency next offseason.*

They don’t need to do anything right now.

The Rockets are looking at max capspace next offseason if they don't do anything. They're not making any decisions with money unless they trade for a star that takes up that space.

As for me--I'm leaning toward "neither of them". This was looking like an easy decision for most of the season, just extend Sengun and don't f*ck around with it, but Jalen had to go and make it complicated by balling out all March. Now you're faced with, do you lock in on these two guys as the "franchise players" and hope they're good enough? Because that destroys all of your flexibility. Or, do you wait and see.

I'd probably wait and see, but it's tough because as Barnes' contract demonstrates--Sengun has probably earned his max money. I don't like playing around with him and potentially creating ill will there.

Only consideration at this point would be if they oblige with a hometown discount, which no one seems to do anymore.

Guys gotta start proving they can be star caliber players to get those contracts. I'm good not paying them this offseason. If I had to pay one of them it's Sengun I guess but definitely not the full max. Both guys have potential and are young still but still have a lot to prove to earn those deals.

This expert suggests max for Sengun and no extension now for Jalen:

@BimaThug suggesting no extension for Sengun instead.

Can Alpi be as good as/is Alpi already better than Alonzo Mourning?

As to JG, is Allan Houston his floor or ceiling?

Both currently reek of second fiddle late 90's leastern conference head honchos to me.

Offering sengun an extension would be malpractice, his cap hold is super low. Green i would offer something below his cap hold and if he says no just wait, he still needs to show he doesn’t completely suck

I hope Jalen doesn't think he's worth the same money as Barnes because he's not. Not even close.

Crazy thing is, Barnes is not what I would picture being a future top 5 player but he's still getting that max.

I guess the Raptors have no choice and it hurts less since they won the finals recently.

Agree with this. Fanbase loves to overvalue our guys but they have to prove it to earn those contracts.

    14pts 1stl 1ast 4rb 1blk on .488/.395/.791

That line gets you $40m per year now. And that’s not somebody underperforming their contract. That’s what OG Anunoby produced this year and how much the Knicks are likely to compensate him for it. They probably could have saved $5-10m per had they extended him earlier.

Yeah this should be the only right answer, gives the team the most flexibility. 100% expect "give Sengun the max and Green nothing" to win though lol.

Jalen needs to grow up BAD, on and off the court. I’d like to see what Alpi does this year. I’d wait on both.
