You were serious about starting a "new" thread about this in the Desert Scar thread?

Well, of those listed I would choose Adelman. However, at present we don't have the athletes needed for his style of game. However, with the right drafts, minor trades and player development, his style could be fully implemented in a year or so. JVG's favs (Battier in particular) are slower than tree sap in January.

Well like I have said in many threads, I don't think there is a better option out there over JVG.

Looks like he will be gone and I strongly belive Del Harris will be our next coach. He will work well with Spanoulis and other young players plus he will command respect but will not micro manage like JVG.

Del has a built in relationship with Yao and I think he will handle T-Mac well.

Do I think he is an upgrade? Not really but it might be what the Rockets need. Is it a slam dunk JVG is gone and Harris will be here? No but this is what I think will happen.

i agree. there really isnt a clear cut guy thats better than jvg.

about del harris. I respect him but what bothers me is that this team is naturally mild mannered and not hard nosed, since its best players are that way. If the rockets cant get a player to in the offseason to add some of those tough, firey and competitive players then i think you have to have a coach to substitute for that.

(Posted this in another thread as well)

Where the heck do you keep getting Del Harris from? Why are you absolutely certain he will be our next head coach?

I hope you are right. Either he, Rick Adelman (his defense, or lack thereof worries me though), or Mario Elie would all be acceptable though.

I think JVG is the best coach for this team. If he does leave then I'm in favor of Calvin Murphy. Since there's no way Les would hire Calvin, I think the Rockets should bring in Tom Izzo from Michigan State.

I debated putting him at the bottom as opposed to Stan Van.

it's an interesting idea considering his relationship with Yao.

But I don't really think promoting Gundy's assistant is a Les kind've move. Whoever they choose would have to make some kind of splash.

Also another choice I decided to keep off was Rudy, simply because I have heard no buzz for him having a desire to return to the pine (and he still under contract with the Lakers as well)...

Maybe if we hire Marc Iavaroni, he could tell us a few secrets about the Suns and so we can finally beat them!

haha...I gave you a little while to pursue it, if you felt like it.

considering today is incredibly slow at work, I figured I would amuse myself

I would have voted for Phil Jax if he is on the list. But since he is not, I voted for Adelman because he can make Bonzi play.

    Rick Adelman

The main reason I chose Adelman is I believe we have the current talent and players to utilize his offensive philosohpy. Despite the fact our team has a defensive reputation, we have two of the premiere offensive players in the league, and an offense that puts a premium on ball movement would maximize both Yao and T-Macs ability to find other players for easy offense. I feel both players are proficient at passing, and only T-Mac's ability was properly displayed in the system JVG implemented. This will also allow alot more looks for Yao at the top of the key facing the basket or at the elbow, which is an effective part of his game that was essentially abandoned by Gundy.

Adelman also has a good resume, leading a highly skilled Kings team to multiple WC Finals appearances. Although, he has never made it to the Big Dance, it can be argued that a few years his Kings teams outplayed a Dynasty Lakers team (arguably the most dominant of the last decade) which they repeatedly took to the brink of elimination.

His defensive deficiencies are something I have noticed to be brought up repeatedly. Although I have no argument for or against this claim, I can only note that any team capable of making repeated WCF and competing with the best team of the last decade must have a somewhat effective defensive gameplan. One would also hope some of the defensive mentality that Gundy engrained into the minds of his players would hangover for whoever is next to usurp his position.

The few: Mario Elie, Marc Iavaroni (someone convinced me), or I might be open to Rick Adelman and Del Harris

I like Adleman and Larry Brown, either would be good replacements for this team. I like Adelman's offense and Brown's resume with teams close to making that last push. We could be like Detroit circa 2003. bring one more quality piece in and who knows. Maybe Billups reunites with the coach that made him finals MVP?

well that parts a pipe dream, but pipes and dreams seem to be in heavy supply around here so why not light up and doze off.

Adleman seems the most logical choice though.

Rick Adelman took the Trail Blazers to the Finals twice- in 1990 and 1992.
