    According to ESPN:

    GM search begins
Aug 28 - The Astros have assembled a list of four candidates who either will be or have been contacted about the vacant general manager's job, a source told ESPN's Keith Law.

Law reported that the four candidates were former Dodgers GM Dan Evans; former Tigers GM Randy Smith (son of Astros team president and interim GM Tal Smith); Dodgers assistant GM Logan White; and Dan Jennings, the Marlins' VP of player personnel.

McLane already commented that he and Tal agreed that considering Randy Smith would be inappropriate.

I'd be ok with White or Jennings...the Dodgers and the Marlins have stocked farm systems.

Based purely on observed results, I would want Dan Jennings. The Marlins have developed a ton of great young talent for a while (really since they joined the league).

You guys do realize that the Marlins stockpiled a lot of that talent by trading away their free agents they weren't going to re-sign (two firesales), as well as picking higher and signing draft picks in years where they had fire sales.

You don't get a lot of great prospects when you're re-signing guys like Berkman and Oswalt to big money deals, instead of trading them (not that I'm advocating trading them, just explaining that its an eventual sequale of signing free agents... see St. Louis and their barron farm system).

    +1

Any more info on the other 3? From what I heard from Dodger fans, Logan White is thought highly by them due to his rebuilding of the farm system and that Dan Evans was a hit or miss by whoever you talk to.

I'd firesale like the Marlins if we won World Series every couple of years like they have.

Ask fans in Florida if it feels like "every couple of years". You know the Marlins are looking to relocate, don't you?

Ah, gotcha. It's funny that Phillips announced on espn that he wasn't interested in the job. Teams have not exactly been beating at his door to hire him.

Evans would be a great hire.
