Okay, Cato isn't all that much worse than Kurt Thomas...in fact, they're pretty similar. Steve isn't head and shoulders above Cat as a 2 guard...I personally think that Cat is outplaying Steve this year anyhow...

And Ward as a upgrade over Steve at the 1? Please.

Overall, horrible, horrible trade. We're playoff bound anyway. This trade would just take us from a 6th seed to an 8th.

    Cato + Mobley

    for

Tinsley + Harrington + Scot Pollard

For Indiana, they don't give up any starters. Harrington and Pollard's minutes are dropping drastically - Indiana would really like to play Croshere more. Cato is definitely a betetr C than Pollard or Foster. Adding Mobley gives Reggie a better backup, and allows Artest to stay at the 3. It also keeps their bench potent. Overall, I sincerely believe that both teams improve after this trade, and I do believe that Indiana improve their chances at beating a Western team in the Finals.

    Yao/Pollard/Meech
MoT/Harrington/Pollard (Eventually Griffin will come back too)
    Harrington/Boki/JJ
    JJ/Pike/Francis
    Francis/Tinsley

Tinsley is a wonderful option off the bench, and in certain matchups, we can play him major minutes with Steve at the 2. We get quicker, and more athletic up front without losing much size.

    Cato/Foster
    J O'Neal/Cato/Croshere
    Artest/Bender/Croshere
    Miller/Mobley
    Kenny Anderson/Anthony Johnson/Fred Jones

Are people forgetting that we are currently on pace for a playoff berth? Trades to put us in the playoffs, just a silly trade idea too as it doesn't really help the Knicks either. Well, what I really wanted to say sorta rhymes with silly, but would be blocked out.

Why would they want Mobley, a SG, when they already have a shooting guard in Allan Houston?

I think a deal involving Cato for Thomas makes more sense. Cato gives them depth and an overall strenghening of the front line; solid enough to be a force in the east. Cato will be able to share minutes with the aging Mutombo. Thomas is now expendable with the return of McDyess.

    Projected NY line-up:
    Mutombo/Cato
    McDyess/Harrington
    Van Horn/Anderson
    Houston/Anderson
    Eisley/Ward

Thomas gives the Rockets a needed bruiser at PF plus he has the ability to shoot with some range

    Projected Hou line-up:
    Yao/Meech
    Thomas/MoT
    Jackson/Pike/Boki
    Mobley/Jackson
    Francis/Moochie

    ....but I wouldn't stop there!

I would also try to move Francis plus a future 1st to Indiana for Artest plus Tinsley.

The Pacers need a two, and Francis would give them the firepower at that position to be a strong enough force to be tops in the east. They also have room to move Artest because they have Harrington waiting the wings. Tinsley would be a throw-in in the deal.

Artest and Tinsley give the Rockets a needed young, athletic, defensive stopper at small forward and a good back-up pg.

    Projected Indy line-up:
    Foster/Pollard
    O'Neal/Pollard
    Harrington/Croshere
    Francis/Miller
    AJ/Anderson

    Projected Hou line-up:
    Yao/Meech/Badiane
    Thomas/MoT/Badiane
    Artest/Jackson/Pike
    Mobley/Jackson/Pike
    ????/Tinsley

For this trade to go down it would require several things to happen. First, Houston would have to miss the playoffs again. At that point, management should look to go a different way (in terms of Francis) and build this team around Yao. Secondly, Indy would have to fall short of the ECF or the NBA Finals. At that point they may want to add more power to surround O'Neal with.

For the starting PG, I know here in Dallas, Nash is not happy with his contract and may opt out at seasons end. If Nash is resigned, I believe Brent Barry will be avaliable at seasons end. A decent back-up center may also be aquired through minor trades or incentive packages in other deals or through the MLE.

Final 04-05 Houston Rockets projected line-up:
    Yao/???/Meech
    Thomas/MoT
    Artest/Jackson/AG
    Mobley/Pike/Jackson
    Nash (or Barry)/Tinsley

This is a starting group that I believe would be able to contend for tops in the west. I have not run the numbers but all of the trades I have mentioned seem to make everyone stronger while not giving up too much in return.

Why all the RealGM bashing? All it is is a tool to tell us whether or not the trade will work dollarwise. That is (more than) half of the quotient for trade-making these days.

It's like a hurdle but good deal-making still requires brains and saavy. Why are people so threatened by bad trade proposals? Just shoot it down and tell us why.... :)

I have to say, I like Sane's idea. I think we would have to throw in our Chicago/Bryce Drew draft pick just as a sweetener, maybe.

Thing is, Mo's coming around. I like Cato but there are a lot of Eastern COnference teams that would give up their proverbial left nut to get him. Cat is a cheap and effective scorer whose defense has also improved.

JVG keeps mentioning that the team is "kinda small" and I would see Jim Jackson, Eric Piatkowski and Adrian Griffin as capable of holding down the 2.

I know a taller small forward has not been JVG's M.O., but maybe in the Western Conference he sees that he can't rely on the small 3.

Houston trades Steve+Cat for Kobe+Payton in LAL.
    Trade accepted from both sides.

Houston trades JJ+Boki+Pike for KG in Minn.
    Trade accepted from both sides.

Houston trades Mo+Cato for Duncan at San.
    Trade accepted from both sides.

Houston are announced championships for the next 8 years since the rest of the league quits playing because they believe that they are not able to compete with the Rockets.

Does that make everyone on the board happy?
