Okay, here is my dream scenario:

    1) Trade Weatherspoon, Wesley, Vin Baker, Ward for Jason Kidd.

    Reasoning:

Yes, Kidd is not a spring chicken anymore. Yes, his jumpshot is somewhat suspect. Yes, we would add a huge contract for four more years. However, Kidd is a supreme talent and we must dare to be great. The Dallas series has shown that even though JVG seems to be able to maximize what we get out of our role players at most times, this will probably not be enough to take us to a championship. Also, Kidd's game is not based that much on athleticism, but on court vision and a good understanding of the game, so age should not be that much of an issue. New Jersey might be willing to do it because of his contract size and age, and this might be an opportunity for the Rockets. We cannot afford three max guys, you say? Well, I am pretty sure our payroll would still be much lower than Dallas', New York's or Portland's (please correct me if I am wrong), and I am not sure the team's revenues would be lower than those teams' revenues.

    2) Sign Donyell Marshall with the MLE.

Reasoning: As much as I would like it, I don't think we can get Stromile Swift with the MLE. He is young and has "potential", and those guys usually get overpaid by a lot. Marshall is a veteran that has already cashed in somewhat and I don't think teams will overpay for him as he is already 31 and is coming off a pretty bad season. He is an excellent three-point shooter, good rebounder and decent shot-blocker. He could play minutes at PF and perhaps sometimes SF.

    3) Draft Danny Granger from New Mexico

Admittedly, I haven't seen the guy play much, but I like the description at nbadraft.net and his defensive and overall numbers - "Only player in college basketball to average over 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks in 2004-2005.". Sounds like a Josh Howard type of guy (hopefully without the thug aspect, sounds like Granger is intelligent, too).

    4) Sign Bo Outlaw for the veterans' minimum

Always liked the guy...not sure how much is left in the tank, but...would he be worse than Braggs?

    5) Sign Wesley Person for the veterans' minimum

    We need three-point shooters...

    6) Re-sign Deke and Jon Barry.

Deke is an awesome backup center, and Jon Barry has heart and a good three-point shot and is a smart player. Wouldn't want to spend too much on either one of them, though. If anything, they should want to stay on for the chance to win a title with T-Mac and Yao.

    Roster:

    PG: Kidd, Mike James, Moochie*
SG: Sura, Jon Barry, Wes Person
    SF: T-Mac, Granger, Padgett
    PF: Howard, Marshall, Bo Outlaw*
    C: Yao Ming, Mutombo

One concern would still be size and quickness when defending the perimeter, and possibly shot-blocking and quickness from the PF position. Swift would be great, but I don't see how we could sign him. I would also love to get someone like Korver (would be perfect) or perhaps Antonio Daniels, but that should also be difficult.

Overall, I think I would want to go to war with that team...perhaps we could get a 2nd round pick from New Jersey in that deal, and draft some athletic SG prospect (CJ Miles?)...

But let's hear your plans, they are probably better :D.

No way we get Kidd, his contract is huge and would put another max one up there, making it hard to re-sign Yao when he becomes a free agent.

Whats the deal with Mike James' contract situation? I thought I remembered hearing his contract would be up at the end of the season but I'm not sure. I dont think Jason Kidd is a realistic goal at pg for us but James is a rising talent. I would like to see him signed for 5 or 6 years as long as he's not asking too much.

    Kidd, Marshall, Outlaw, Person?

Didn't think it was possible, but that team is even older than the current Rockets squad.

he is signed for 3 years (2 more after this) and for those who think he will be gone - remember, the rockets wanted him last summer but the salary cap interfered. Now he is here, I doubt he will be going anywhere. He is a good shooter and is te only other person beside Tmac that can get his own shot

I think thats pretty good news. I believe if he were here since the beginning of the season he would've been the starter. He's our pg of the future.

I like the idea of adding Donyell Marshall. That makes sense. He is 32 but can still hit the 3pt shot to stretch defenses which I think is huge. And he is mobile and can guard quicker 4's which I think is a plus. So I definiately think he will be someone we will look at.

We are not going to get Kidd for expiring contracts. Forget that. And we can't afford 3 Max players even if we got Kidd. And I am concerned with Kidd's knee, will it hold up? I have my doubts.

Granger will NOT be on the board when we pick. He is a top 10 guy.

Donyell Marshall I would MAYBE take for half the MLE. For the full MLE? No way. A 32 year old player that couldn't get more than 11 points and 6.6 rebounds on a bad team?

I don't understand why everybody loves james so much. The dude can't pass a lick. James is a poor man's Steve Francis. He puts his head down and charges into 3 defenders. He had a couple of good games this series, but I think many of the shots he had taken were horrible.

When the ball is in his hands, he dribbles endlessly to get his own shot. When James is in looking for his shot, he ignores everybody, including McGrady causing McGrady to say "WTF" in one possession and refusing to pass the ball to James on the next possession yelling at James to run up the court.

I still remember a game when time is running out on a quarter and T-mac is in the game with 10 seconds or so. In that situation, T-MAC should have that ball always. Instead, Mr. James refused to pass and got nothing for his dribbling effort.

If James is gone, I won't miss him in the least. If he is made the starting point guard, the passing will come to a complete halt. We don't need his type of game. We had enough from the Stevie days.

The market value for Marshall will be the FULL MLE. No question about it.

Point #1 of your dream is a joke. The Nets owner just admitted he messed up by letting Kenyon Martin leave and said he would spend the offseason trying to make Kidd happy, not trade him. The Nets aren't that far away and they would completely lose their fan base by trading Kidd away for garbage. You've got to be kidding me (no pun intended) if you actually think the Nets would take Vin Baker, Charlie Ward and Wesley for Kidd.

I'm not a Nets fan, but they have high hopes for next year. A couple of decent bigs and a solid training camp would put them on the fast track to being divisional champs next year. They aren't looking rebuild, and even if they were, why in the world would they take your trade?

When you look at Carroll Dawson's last 4 trades (esp. the one for T-Mac), it's tempting to think he can hypnotize other GMs. I, too, want lightening to strike again, but don't count on it. [I will happily eat my words if CD can pull another rabbit out of his hat].

James needs to quit pulling a francis if he wants to lead this team.....dribble, dribble, dribble...I like his quicks and his to the basket skills...but chill out and pass more...

overall, we need to get quicker and an athletic 4.....not sure where and how, but wesley, ward, sura need to go...

would love to have donnyell at the 4 coming off the bench behind howard.....

our PG might be this greek cat...I was at the olympics and saw him play....kid can dish and shoot...he is better than what we have and can play in the NBA with no prob

The Magic organization loves trading great talent to us for our starters. Sura, Wesley and Padgett for Dwight Howard - always a possibility with Weisbrod at the helm.

    :p

    Option 1
Seriously though, numero uno priority is rebounding and in this department I see JVG looking for someone in the Charles Oakley mold. My vote is for this guy -> Sun MING MING

    http://www.news-record.com/sports/local/bkbtraining_041305.htm

This dude is SEVEN FOOT NINE and 350 POUNDS!!!! He's Bigger than Shaq and He's in the 2005 DRAFT!!! With Yao here, Houston can become an awesome recruiting ground for new talent from China.

    Option 2
Matt Freije. Young guy who can shoot the 3 and REBOUND. Worth the gamble, IMHO. OR John Wallace formerly from Syracuse who can also shoot and rebound well.

    more to follow...

    1. Trade Howard, some expiring contracts (Spoon, Baker, Mooch, Wes) and a pick for Paul Pierce and Lafrentz.

If Boston is looking to rebuild, I could definitely see them doing this deal. They move out PP's max contract. And they trade off Lafrentz's huge contract for a Howard contract that has the same length but is about half the yearly salary.

I don't really want Lafrentz but I don't really see them doing the deal without him.

    2. Sign or trade for Chandler/Swift/Kwame/SAR, in that order. Chandler would be a dream, and Swift would be excellent in that role, but they will be hard to sign. I don't see the Bulls letting go of Chandler with Curry's future in doubt, and Swift to New Orleans seems to make the most sense to me. And Brown will have plenty of teams willing to take a chance on him, so that will be a difficult signing also. At this point, I want no part of Marshall. He's like 32 and I don't know how many good years he's got left.

SAR looks to be the most signable. None of the cap space teams seem to be talking about him, and I bet he could be had for the full MLE.

    3. If we still have a 2005 1st rounder, I'd add Hakim Warrick. He would fill out our forward rotation nicely. A great energy athlete off the bench.

    4. Resign Barry and Deke.

    5. We'd probably need one more guard, so I guess bringing over Span-something-or-other from Greece would be worth a try.

    Sura / James / Span
Pierce / Barry (Or Wesley if he's still around)
    T-Mac / Warrick
    SAR / Warrick / Lafrentz
    Yao / Deke / Lafrentz

That free agent list is HORRIBLE.

I like Donyell..but we are trying to build a great team..I would rather keep Howard and develop Badiane..or draft a power forward. Or Bo Outlaw wouldn't be bad off the bench.

    Resign Mutombo PLEASE!!!!! Barry too.

    Get rid of Sura.

Bring Spanoulis here..keep Mike James. Vassy will be 3rd string behind MJ and whoever we bring in. I like Montgo's info about him.

At shooting guard..Wesley Person is old...but PAUL PIERCE! That would be awesome.

I agree with m_cable that would be a good lineup.

    Span/James
    Tmac/Barry or Wesley
Warrick (can we really get him? can he shoot?)/Tmac/Bowen
Chandler (dream) or Howard/Donyell Marshall/Badiane/Padgett (worst ever yesterday)
    Yao/Dikembe

So bring Span and Badiane over. Don't know if Span is really ready. If he needs some more time to improve, I would give him more playing time and work on him as a backup. Keep Mike James. Keep Sura if we have to..but try to go after Antonio Daniels and Jaric.
Tmac back to the 2..but also at the 3..
    Hakim Warrick draft him?
Tyson Chandler sign him...or if we can't..Donyell Marshall will be a good backup.
    Resign DIKEMBE!!!!!!!

My dreams are Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, or Jason Kidd.
But that lineup would be good.
Chandler, SAR, Marshall, Wilcox all sound good. Just get one of them.

If Warrick doesn't fit anywhere in any position..then we should draft an athletic guard/forward who can play small forward or shooting guard alongside Tracy McGrady. Barry and/or Wesley will be backups. Bowen too.
