    We're assuming that:

    - It's true that JVG and management don't get along (see: Doc Rockets's thread)
    - We keep making the playoffs and don't make a real scratch (Who knows what moves we'll make but most teams in the league have the same problem. Heck, even the mighty Sacramento. Only one team can win it all.)
    - JVG is either fired or steps down (He's not exactly the man of infinite patience and he has quit before.)
    - Rudy is officially on "sick leave". He's still a scout for us and has indicated that he would be interested in coaching again.

This situation could theoretically happen. Maybe in a year, more likely in a couple years. I think Gundy is a great coach and is the right man for the job right now, but as we know from Rudy T's tenure, that could change.

Let's say in a few years we have a veteran playoff team and a coaching vacancy. Do you hire Rudy? For any other reason besides sentimentality? I think so because:

    - he's a proven winner
    - obviously better suited for experienced teams like ours would be in this situation.
    - already settled in Houston
    - already familiar with the players and organization
    - you build hype around the league with his amazing comeback story
    - players around the league respect him and he might be an added draw through free agency
    - the reason he left was lack of discipline but the hard work will have been done at this point. What we'll have is the equivalent of a worn baseball mit defensively.
    - who else knows the inside outside system better than Rudy?

Let's see what you guys think. This is way too early to think about, admittedly, but am I on to something or am I just a sentimental ranting idiot? ;)

The Rockets should have fired Grumpy's *** two days ago and brought back Rudy yesterday.

Why on earth would RT take those sloppy seconds? He may love the guys (and who knows which ones, other than YM would still be here?), but as the old saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

The only way something like this could happen is if Le$ were to sell the team.

WE should actually start a web cite, BringBackRudyT.com, i'm dead serious. Get all kinds of support and ****, it would be awesome! We need to demote JVG to defensive coordinator and bring back Rudy T.

Now I ask you, who is the only coach to bring us two championships? I don't think it was JVG!

    Actually, the saying goes:

"Fool me once.. shame on... shame on you...... it fooled, can't be fooled again."

    I saw it on TV.

As much as I hate Gundy and want him gone, I'd give him ONE more year.
After that, send him back to NY dead or alive......it's doesn't matter.

That being said, can they bring in a true teacher of the Center position for Yao, as well as an assistant coach for offense.

do you think respect issues would be a problem? Like having rudy coach people who had him before and he was fired the first time...

i'd worry about players thinking.. "he has already tried to coach me once and couldn't get the job done"..

although rudy seems well liked so this may not be a problem with him

If Steve and Cuttino are here, then I'll say NO to Rudy T. They walked all over him the first time he was here, and it got us nowhere. I can easily see it happening again. However, if those two are gone, then Rudy will be welcome with open arms. (I just don't think Rudy will welcome the Rockets with open arms, though...)

Does the coaches salary go against the cap?

If not, then I'd say give him the highest pay in the league. That ought to speak for itself.

I still can't imagine Rudy being vindictive about it. Doesn't seem in his nature. He seemed very at ease in all his interviews.

You could simplify the poll by asking "Who wants to see more ISO basketball?"

I love Rudy and it's sad to not see him on the sideline, but I think that's just because he's been here so long and we've learned to like the guy so much..

I think the question is.. if he was anyone but Rudy.. would we be wanting him back after the past few years.. or is this purely because many of us just like Rudy because of how long he was a Rocket..

Genius! RT coached the Rockets for 10 years, and had one of the greatest centers of All-Time. JVG has been here one year with a soft Yao. Genius!

It's pathetic how some of you already hate JVG. Do you hate him because he took us to the playoffs, something Rudy failed to do in his last 4 seasons?

Remember a year ago when we complained about how crappy the offense was, along with how we played no defense?

At least we play defense now.

Once we get rid of the albatross known as Francis, we will take another step forward.

It's really pathetic how fast people jump against JVG, despite the fact that we improved from last year.

What do you guys want? A steady decline?

Did you even read my initial post? Your reading skills are seriously lacking. Don't turn this into a mud-flinging fest.

People need to relize that JVG's system is not a big deal. Is it his fall that our guards cant hold on to the ball? Iso bball has and will never win a championship; defense is the key. It was Rudy's time to go.

I sure as hell want to see this team playing the percentages, and SCORING instead of this turnover/chucker nonsense they are doing under JVG...
