What an entertaining night! One of my favorite things about our GM is that he gives us little nuggets of information for us to speculate on. With that being said, here are some of my questions about our roster and future direction... [Draft] -Morey said there were 22 players with first round talent. Obviously Marcus Morris was one (anyone know how high he was on our draft board) and Montiejunas was said to be a lottery type talent. Even Parsons was a possible 1st round selection. If that's the case, did we get 3 "first round picks" this year? Based on various info, our draft board might have looked like this: Morris at ~#8 (potential trade with Detroit), Donatas ~#14 (I suspect Morey REALLY liked this guy and thought he was a top 5 talent), and lowest possible first round talent in Parsons @ ~22? -Which one of the Morris twins did Rox like more? Was Donatas actually higher up on their board than Marcus? -Kevin being Kevin. I wonder how much of his input was taken into draft considerations. I suspect very little. -So much of getting the best deals on draft night is trying to figure out what other teams are thinking. They were supposedly sweating it out at the utah pick and specifically traded up a few spots to get Moti before someone else did. How much of the other teams' strategies did Houston really know? [Trades] -What was the proposed trade for Biedrins? Was Miller and Hill involved? -Seems like Rox always keep tabs on players they initially like and follow them throughout. Anyone know which players in the past they really liked so that we have an idea of who they are opportunistically waiting for? [Future plans] -I think part of the reason we have collected all these 2009 lottery picks is because they offer the maximal flexibility for the 2012 free agency/sign&trade scenarios. They are young players with high ceilings (unproven so far and thus why we've acquired them for cheap) but are also come off the books in 2 yrs. -Obviously they are wanting to address the rim protector. Who are their targets? -I understand that everyone at this point is available for upgrades. However, which players on the team are considered less "tradeable" than others because Houston thinks they are championship calibre? We know that Martin is already on record to be one. I think Lowry and Patterson can develop into that level. -Rebuilding while not going under .500. It's never been done before. What makes them think it's possible under current nba structure? I know there are a lot of fans much more knowledgeable than me so I would appreciate it if you could provide some insight to my ponderings. Also you guys have any more questions you want to float out to the clutchfans community? Thanks for reading/responding.
I don't think Morey or Les thinks it's a better strategy to rebuild while not going under .500, it's just that Les is getting old and doesn't want to wait years before seeing competitive basketball again, so he's taking the mediocrity treadmill route.
Why didn't you just post these questions in the appropriate threads? You just went through the exisiting threads and combined your questions about them into this one thread. You're more likely to get answers within those threads.
I thought it'd be more efficient to have a one-stop shop for these and other questions that people might have rather than sift through all the other threads, which let's face it, have a lot of superfluous content (like Morey love/hate comments/threats, rants and claims about how they "know" how our drafts will be without them having played one minute in the league, etc)
