I am only speculating, but with the Grizzlies sure to relocate in the future and a new owner for the Supersonics, both franchises could move which would could make the league have to consider realignment. If this were true, the Rockets could be tearing up the eastern conferences in a couple of years.
the Supersonics might sell to the Starbuck's guy. That company is based out of Seattle, so I do not see them moving. The Grizzlies would probably move to St Louis which would actually be more geographically correct in the midwest division. I doubt a realignment would come up prior to the current CBA expiring anyhoo. ------------------

Grizz aren't going to St. Louis anytime soon. The Laurie's (owners of the St. Louis Blues) tried to buy the Grizz but were thwarted when the NBA told them they couldn't move the franchise. Their new owner probably won't sell but he might re-locate. New Orleans? Louisville (remember them)? How would the potential movement of 2 western teams (and the Sonics ain't moving) cause the Rox to get moved to the Eastern conference? The only realignment that would occur is if the Grizz were assigned to the Eastern Conference, in which case an Eastern team (Chicago?) could be reassigned to the West.
