    from nba.com:

    ERICK STRICKLAND, Boston Celtics
    Key 2001-02 Stats: 11.7 ppg, 3.1 apg, .434 3FG
Analysis: A defensive specialist off the bench who proved capable of providing an outside scoring punch, Strickland logged several 20-point games in 2001-02. Then, after going virtually unused throughout the Celtics' playoff run, he finally got playing time in Games 4 and 5 against New Jersey, contributing 13.5 ppg. Will be a reliable, consistent role player wherever he signs.

Looks like a perfect fit for the Rockets, a role player SG who can play defense and hit from the outside. I'd like to see the Rockets sign him. Only problem is he's only 6'3, can we afford another small guard?

I wouldn't worry about his height. They called him a defensive specialist, and he's been defending 2's most of his carreer. Not a bad fit if he's really available.

Too bad we can't get Wally Szerbiak. I know he wants the max but man, he shoots over 50% from the field and 45% for 3's. Good rebounder too. He is gonna walk from the Twolves and somebody will get him.

Disclaimer: "Defensive Specialist" = zero offense.

Doc posted in the Maddox To Backup Francis thread that neither Maddox nor Oscar will likely make the team and we're in a hunt for good backup 2-guard.

Strickland seems like a good fit. Terrible FG%, but came off a good 3-pt. shooting year, 38%. For his career, he's shot 35% from the perimeter. The four games he started last year he kicked butt, hitting over 50% for both FG and three-pointers, and averaging 2 steals per game. Definitely a candidate worth looking at, I guess, if his defense is strong.

That's certainly a stereotype we Rocket fans can relate with, but actually, Strickland has some offensive capabilities.

I saw a lot of him when he played for the Mavs, and he's a decent shooter, and a pretty effective penetrator. I never really thought of him as a defensive specialist, and had never heard him coined as such until this thread came up. Interesting....

um no. If Rickey Davis would come cheap and of the bench we should get him. He could be a part of the new run and gun rockets.

Strickland is okay, but didn't he try to fight Cato when the C's came to Houston this year? This might make me unpopular but more than SG's, PG killed us last year so maybe Strickland could just D up on the PG's in the league when we go to that "small ball" lineup.

Another FA Defensive specialist is Greg Buckner of the Mavs. I don't know how tall he is but he sure as hell can D up on the perimiter. They HAD to put him in the series against the Kings even though is offensive is limited b/c they needed one player on the court who could play some D. He could be an interseted player.

Does Oscar's D suck that bad that he can't make the team as a back up. I remeber it being shaky here and there last year but I thought it was b/c he didn't speak englisg and couldn't communicate w/ his teamates that well, but someone let me know what the deal is w/ him. I like him.

Hmm...I'm not familiar with these "run and gun" Rockets...I'm a little more familiar with the dribble, dribble, dribble, and shoot Rockets. :D

Really though, the Rockets aren't a run and gun team. I don't know where people get that from. The Nets and Kings would be run and gun...the Rockets should be, but haven't really been because of the poor frontcourt rebounding. Hopefully this will change with Yao.
