With OOTP4 being released soon, we might be able to make the league a full online type league, where everybody could own the game and take full advantage of the program.

Just to sort of get a feeler... how many of you are either already purchasing OOTP4, or would be willing to puchase OOTP4. Its 30 bucks.

I would be willing to buy my own copy of the game if we wanted to go full online. But I have no problem keeping it the way it is if people don't want to spend the money.

I'm not against it - but I might have problem getting the game. Yeah - I do know I can download it online, but I currently have no way of paying online.

I feel the same way as RR...basically as long as my crappy computer would be able to run the game I would be willing to buy a copy of the game..I was thinking about buying a copy of the old one before anyways. But if it would created a problem for others in the league it wouldn't make a difference to me to continue as it is now.

i can do it, if we decide to go that route, but i dont see any reason to change a good thing now that i can use for free-its not like im made of money-but it wouldn't deter me.

Well, first I'm against it cause my computer right now can't run OOTP, and I won't get a new computer for at least a couple of months or so, if not a lot longer.

But seriously, I just think a "full online league" makes it too exclusive. Do you guys realize how cool OOTP would be if we ever got a full league? The league is good now, but to get the best experience I think we need to keep expanding, and sooner or later more people will join. You're pretty much going to shut that door if you make it a full online league, because I don't know that many people that will pay $30 to participate in a league on a game that they've never seen. Yes, I realize that it is possible to manage without the game, but you'd be at a competitive disadvantage with most of the league, and that wouldn't be fun. I also realize that you could get users from the OOTP site, but part of the fun now is that we're all from CC.net.

I'd spend the money when I get a new computer, but I just don't think it's a good idea. It makes things too exclusive.

I have to agree with Cat as far as the exclusivity goes...

Agree with Cat 100%. I would be willing to buy the game, and might anyway if my computer can run it, but if it became an online league we'd never fill it up. I think with real baseball season coming around, we may be able to recruit some people by "advertising" openings in the league.

An online league would limit owners to what we've got now, if not fewer people.

I could easily buy the game because 30 dollars ain't nothing to me. However, I like how it is now, so I don't want anything to change except get some more people to take over these computer teams.

I'm Bill Gates and will buy everyone here 5 copies of OOTP. Give it to a friend, a neighbor, your pets.

Probably a moot point but I will bre getting the game. BTW if we have 12 people buy copies we can apply for server space from the OOTP people.

I plan on buying one anyway. Is there a discount for previous ootp owners?

I really wish Nomar hadn't posted this. It is possible that I'd do this, if enough people had a copy of the game. However, I don't want to pressure anyone into making a purchase. I also don't like the idea of having "haves" and "have-nots" in the league.

If we did do something like this, I'd want a 2/3rds majority vote first. And we would never preclude anyone that didn't have a copy from entering/participating.

I agree haven My vote is to stay as is with just an upgrade to version 4. I don't want to exclude Cat, Heath or BGM just because they don't have the game. DV has also said to me in chat he may not get the game either. It would not be right to say well you guys can't play anymore because you won't or can't fork out 30 bucks for the game so too bad so sad. I will be getting the game and as far as people having the game having an advantage over those without it, I would be happy to explain the new features (once i figure out how to use them) to those that don't have the game. I don't think that will become a problem. I mean I have OOTP3 and that has not made me a better GM than any of the above mentioned people.

---edited note--- An alternative solution would be that if Nomar wanted to do some type of total online league he could always start a completely seperate league. I am sure there would be some interest out there to start a fresh league that is current.

I doubt too many people in haven's league would want to do 2 leagues. But I plan on joining an online league seperate from haven's. I just want to see how cool the new features are.
