With the Addition of Brad and re-signing of Kyle and Luis. We are over the tax and deep. As fans, we like depth and we don't pay the lux tax. But the owner does care about the tax, though he said he's willing to spend. And the player likes to play, especially the young ones who want to establish themselves. That being said, I've read and heard that Rasheed is done but has not filed his papers yet. That means he can be traded and that once his paperwork is processed, he and his salary is wiped right off the books. So he is a trade chip for Boston as they need some younger bodies. Furthermore, I think considering Morey's roots at the Celtics, we can make a trade. Like Jared Jefferies and Jermaine Taylor for Rasheed. According to ESPN trade machine, we could essentially eliminate over 7.5m in salary plus the lux tax effect. For them defensively, Jared could replicate what Rasheed did, if they want to hold onto him. They just lost Tony Allen and everyone remembers JT's performance on Kobe. He definately has more offensive potential then TA. I like JT but I don't know how many minutes we have for him here. Seems like the team is committed to Lowry, Martin, and Brooks and even Bud so there aren't much minutes to make him happy IMO. Seems like the team is looking for a 3rd PG so that proposed 2 for 1 or 2 for 0 helps open some space and a little playing time. We would just have to get rid of DA and success!

    PG:AB/KL/3rd PG
    SG:KM/CB/AB
    SF:TA/SB/CB
    PF:LS/JH/PP/SB
    C:YM/BM/CH/JH/LS/PP

Even with the deal we will still be deep but not have so many talented guys buried with no shot of minutes. Thoughts?

Time to make a 2-1/3-1 for an upgrade at the SF.

    I would make this trade...

    Jeffries, Andersen, Johnson and Harris

    for

    Dampier

Then we dump Dampier's salary and BAM we are under the LT. Charlotte also gets under the LT immediately and Jeffries is the type of player Larry Brown likes while the rest could just be waived.

I would think they would get better offers for Dampier though. I think Morey's Celtic connection and a decent fit for them might make that a good trade for all sides. But your trade certainly shows there are options.

Agreed, that's a place where we can use some clearing. Battier is a winner though, I don't want to lose him.

I'd trade Hill and Andersen for Thabeet. It works under ESPN trade machine. Would you do that trade? You think Memphis would? If Memphis is trying to save money, Andersen is partially guaranteed. And they'd get a big man project in return, similar to Thabeet. I like Pat more than JH. And I think JH is a PF, that we are trying to force to into a C role. Would rather have Thabeet playing the 5.

Jeffries can be an asset for a better trade during the season...

Yes, possibly. But not definate. My two proposed trades would leave this rotation. 3rd PG- Shaun Livingston, not sure he's signed somewhere. But he gives us size at PG spot (6'7) giving us optimal depth.

    PG- Brooks, Lowry, Livingston
    SG- Martin, Bud, Brooks, Livingston
    SF- Ariza, Battier, Bud
    PF- Scola, Pat, Hayes, Battier
    C- Yao, Miller, Thabeet

I would be okay with that as my team. Would you?

Near the deadline, Jeffries can be moved to a team under the cap for $3M, since that's about all he'll have owed to him.

So, I'd try move Andersen *now* to a team under the cap. Chicago could use a perimeter big...

I'd say very unlikely, there's little incentive for the other team to help the Rockets. Usually these trade deadline salary dumps involve a $1M to $2M cash profit and pick/s.

Rockets would obviously have to send money or 2nd rounders.

Since Andersen is essentially an expiring contract, it's not going to hurt a team under the cap. Plus, he's got a chance to work his way into a rotation somewhere else.

Andersons is prime for early movement now if someone wants a big who can shoot and spread the floor. We should be looking into suitors for that contract already.

Andersen, Harris ( :( ) and Johnson, obviously won't make the team.

I do think it sucks that we are no doubt, going to be having Hayes, Jefferies, Hill and Patterson battle for playing time at the 4 and sometimes at the 5. They all bring a little something although both Hill and Patterson are young, they have potential to grow with the right amount of minutes and both Hayes and Jefferies are solid to outstanding defensive players.

I'd rather keep Jeffries and Taylor to make a move that actually benefits us at the deadline. Jeffries to match salaries and give a team an expiring and Taylor for talent. If Les didn't want to go over the luxury tax by so much, wouldn't you think he would have just run Hill as our back-up center and not signed Miller?

    Luis, is that you???

Seriously, though, I would like to see a roster-balancing trade that involves a 2-for-1 or a 3-for-1 exchange. However, I don't think Jared Jeffries would be part of such a deal. Sure, he could be involved in a much bigger deal that nets the team another near-star-caliber player. But not a simple salary dump this summer. For something like that, it would probably involve cash, a pick and the Rockets taking back a smaller, useless contract. David Andersen, on the other hand, could possibly be moved in a small deal this summer. But why have Les spend MORE money to dump him, when he can just wait until the deadline?
