Texans Pro Bowler finally ready to play 06:14 PM CST on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 Associated Press The Houston Texans today moved Pro Bowl kick returner Jerome Mathis to the active roster. Mathis missed eleven games recovering from a fractured foot. The Texans by today had to decide whether to activate Mathis or place him on the injured reserve. Coach Gary Kubiak says the player's foot is healed, but he's not sure if Mathis has all of his speed back. Also today, the Texans signed quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt and placed quarterback Sage Rosenfels and center Mike Flanagan on the injured reserve. The Texans will visit Oakland on Sunday. The game will be shown live on KHOU-TV Channel 11 at 3 p.m. http://www.khou.com/sports/texans/stories/khou061128_cc_mathisactivated.3455fea5.html
Correct. Davis was declared Inactive for the remainder of the season. I would not like to see Mathis being thrown in the fire right now. Give him time to recuperate, please, Mr. Kubiak.
Kubiak said he'd like to see him more in a receiver role: [rquoter]Kubiak added that Mathis should rotate in periodically at wide receiver as well. Known for his speed, Mathis adds another deep threat to a passing attack that racked up over 300 yards last week against the Jets.[/rquoter] http://www.houstontexans.com/news/detail.php?PRKey=3146
Mathis was on PUP - Physically Unable to Perform, eligible to come back after a certain point, just like Faggins with the busted foot. DD is on IR, done for the year, there was really nothing structurally wrong, he is just in pain that will probably not go away.
If Kubiak wants him more as a reciever then he might be going after the whole Chicago bears theory with Berrian. Have one speedy guy that can stretch the field for long bombs which opens up the mid range passing game. He had this in Denver with Ashley Lelie. Lets see what happens. Either way i like that he's back becuase we finally will have some good field position after kick offs. Of course we aren't going to do anything with it.
I just hope he's ready to play. I heard that his other foot was bothering him, because it was compensating for the healing foot. Mathis reminds me of Drexler when he runs. He tucks his head and takes off.
