Tricky question. I'd go with PG and C/PF. But then again it depends on the player you have elsewhere. ALA
center and Point guard. a good center is great to see. but a PG who is running the show and giving his teammates open looks, is also beautifull
Beautiful, yes, but we all know only one guard proved that he could lead his team to championships with him dominating. It's the Center position unquestionably.
first off... this thread title is a little misleading (I thought this was on S&M) second... I miss the early 90's with Dreem, Ewing, Robinson, Shaq, Smits, Divac, Sabonis even the defendering Centers were great Joe Klien the Center by committee in Chicago (Longley, Wittington... )
Center - Easiest position to dominate from. PG is cool too, but it's rare to find a PG good enough to build a championship team around don't you think? Right now there's only Jason Kidd and the only PG good enough in the past that is still playing now is Gary Payton, in NBA history there's only been two that won championships. They're just too small and it's almost impossible for them to dominate defensively no matter how good they are, but when they are good enough they're sometimes the best players to watch.
Staying with the question itself, it's PG. Since we've seen the position bastardized into undersized SGs since the 80s, the game itself has suffered. The most impt positions (in order) for winning a championship are C and PG (unless you have the greatest player in league history), but that's a different question. Evan
Blah! I agree with you, didn't even read the question, but I did answer it indirectly anyway. I'd have to change my vote to PG, I'm guessing a lot of people read it wrong though since it's 14 to 5 in favor of C. The most improtant positions also seem to be the hardest positions to fill now a days.
I voted for center, but I really think that basketball is at it's best when the team concept is in the player's heads.
Great guards and good forwards are a dime a dozen, but usually there are only 1-2 dominant centers in the game at any given time. A center has the easiest job of making those around him better simply because they require so much more attention (from multiple defenders)... not to mention how the effect the game on the offensive level.
It's Wennington FOO! You talk about some scary drafts. The Mavs selected him and Uwe Blab back-to-back. They also drafted Detlef Schrempf in the same draft.
for me pg take this season for example.. its fun to watch suns and heat because nash and wade are making great plays for themselves and everyone else..
I voted for PG because is very important to have a player to know when is the correct time to pass, and he has to have a very good vision of the court and where is all the players. Center is my 2nd choice, is important to have someone in the post, to score points in the paint, and the center have to get rebound But i think all positions are important to win a championship.
