My barber that cuts my hair also cuts Poseys Hair as well, Posey is leaning towards signing with Denver again. He quoted to my barber that Rockets do not have enough money for what he is looking for and he feels he is better than a few players on the team who make millions.....<no names mentioned> I have one question or actually couple...anyway they can free up some money to resign him? or can they find some more money to sign him with? Should we worry?
how credible is this? Denver just drafted a small forward in Carmelo Anthony, and with Posey struggling while playing the off guard position, this seems highly unlikely. Posey's best fit is as a small forward, slashing, hitting open jumpers, being a 2 guard would not be beneficial to his game.
Denver will outbid the Rockets for a player who will be a backup? Don't think so. No matter what, the ball is in the Rockets court, they can match whatever they want. If Denver overpays, that will be their mistake.
Houston owns Posey's bird rights. Denver can not out bid Houston for Posey. Houston can offer Posey the max right now with out moving anyone if they wish. If Houston wants Posey he will be here next season. It's as simple as that. Should Denver sign Posey to an offer sheet and Houston thinks it to be reasonable the will simply match the offer and retain Posey.
No surprise here from the stuff we have been hearing lately about the Rockets such as the recent Chronicle article about Posey. It really is going to be a shame if we can't resign Posey. In Denver, Posey would be backing up Carmello Anthony at the 3 spot unless he would be their starting 2 guard. At least here in Houston he would easily be the starting SF. It is unfortunate that the Rockets are apparently so close to the Luxary Tax that they are unwilling/unable to move to get Posey signed. I am not sure what he is asking for but if it is is reasonable it stinks that we can't sign him. I really don't like the idea of having Rice and Nachbar as our small forwards for next year. If the Rockets lose out on Posey and then STILL can't sign anyone because of the fear of the luxary tax then I think this team takes a step backwards in a tough Western Conference where we need to be taking steps forward!
We're in deep $hit if posey doesn't sign. He's got a point....He excels at his position (and has far greater potential) than any of our $20+mm scrubs... CD, get it done.
is there some reason that james posey cannot play 2 guard? i expect the first "reason" will be his shooting %, but i hope you noticed that when posey changed his shooting form his jumper because almost automatic. that's not a fluke. that's a significant, possibly permanent change.
although Posey has bird rights, we could easily be outbid, especially on years. I have a suspicion that since he hasn't signed, yet, that Les is not offering full yrs. Say we offer a starting salary in the $5m MLE range. Maybe Les will not go past 4yrs, so Posey and his agent go looking for a 6yr contract at the same starting salary. In that scenario, we did not get outbid on yearly salary; we get outbid on total compensation.
Wouldn't be the first time Denver traded a player, then resigned him. They did it with McDyess. I think Posey could play 2 fairly easily, now that he's learned how to shoot. Props to Kiki though, if they pull it off...they basically traded Posey to help themselves tank to land 'Melo, get Posey back for probably slightly less than they would've had to pay if they had bird rights, and get a first round pick from Philly for their troubles. I'll believe it when I see it, though- the whole reason they traded Posey was because he was asking them for too much.
His shooting % would be the least of his problems if he were to move to the 2. On offense, his game revolves around other players creating for him and on his hustle. He has very weak ball handling abilities and I wouldn't trust him to bring the ball up the floor, much less attack an opposing team off the dribble. These are all abilities that a 2 guard must have offensively. Defensively, although he excells at playing the passing lanes because of his size, he lacks the lateral quickness of a 2 guard and would have trouble staying in front of a 2 (he allready has trouble staying in front of a 3). This is the reason we did not play him on the better 2 guards in the league. All in all, I would actually play him at pf before I played him at sg as his game fits better in that role. If he were to go to Denver, Carmelo would play the 2 and Posey the 3.
A couple of things. Posey's agent could be giving him bad advice. CD and Les are trying to figure out the best way to re-sign Posey so that it doesn't affect the luxury tax too much, maybe a lesser deal for now, more later when RIce is off the books. I hate this sort of stuff because, although I think we will retain him, it p***es me off a little because Les wants to pay it cheap, after BSing the press on the luxury tax being no impediment. COme on, Les, CD: Miami has capspace. The Clips have capspace. The Wiz, too. Make something happen.
Posey is a restricted free agent and the Rockets can match any offer. The only he goes to the Denver is if Les "the greedy b*stard" Alexander lets him go to keep his YaoMing-generated and taxpayer-subsidised profits.
I think Posey just talked his friends in Denver into making an offer, just so that the Rockets would have to match it. The Rockets won't let this guy go, especially with Van Gundy as coach and Boki struggling in summer leagues.
BTW, Melo will play the 2. Haven't you heard all of their newspapers raving over the Miller/Melo backcourt?
why are people worried about this. First, Mark Berman didn't report it, supposedly a "Barber" did. 2nd, Posey is a restricted free agent. Any offer can be matched.
