Yes, Portland is finally listening to the fans everywhere and has decided to unload one of their misfits.

Will Perdue to the Clippers for a 2nd Rounder

HUGE deal for both teams. The Trailblazers now have 1 less player to demand the ball and the Clippers get a guy with championship experience.

I hate to say it, but the Clippers look pretty unbeatable with Will Perdue coming off the bench...

Discuss the playoff ramifications amongst yourselves...

Will Perdue is tall, plays good defense, and hits the boards. Cato... well, 1 out of 3 isn't bad. You tell me, who would you rather have starting?

I'd never thought I'd say this, but I would take Cato everyday of the week over Will Perdue! Granted Perdue has 4 championship rings, but you could set up a dummy in the paint and it could have won 4 championship rings with those teams!

I was halfway joking, especially since Perdue is old now.

But, in his best season Perdue averaged 10 boards and 1 1/2 blocks, playing less than 30 minutes a game. You wouldn't take those numbers in a heartbeat from KC?

Hmmm, the addition of Will Perdue and his formidable Perdunk makes the Clippers a team to be reckoned with.

I know you were kind of kidding Sam, I just kind of said that jokingly. Actually Perdue at his peak years (if you can call it that) was pretty good. But his best years ended in 1997. Personally I would have taken the "Big Bad @ss" Bill Wennington! His tip jam in '93 against the Orlando Magic still gives me goose bumps! ;)

Perdue sucks. Hell, he played at Vanderbilt. Has any good players come out of Vandy that have lasted in the NBA??

Jan van Breda Kolff - sucks

    Clyde Lee - sucks

Dan Langhi - sucks ??? (Okay I'll give him another year before I say he sucks without a shadow of a doubt)

You guys are missing the whole point of this trade.

There is a salary cap that everyone is aware of but there is also a minimum salary. A team must spend atleast 75% of the salary cap to be at the minimum - or it does not get its full share of league TV and merchandising revenues.

The Clippers had to spend an extra million to prevent from losing up to $40 million. They were short by $320,000. I guess they could have signed a FA to a guaranteed deal and then waived them - but they'd need to stay on the roster until January for the contract to be guaranteed. This way they added to their cap by trading for Perdue and then waived him.

They now exceed th $32,025,000 league minimum salary by an even million - if I'm not mistaken.

Courtside, thanks for the explanation. I couldn't figure out why they did that, since they waived Perdue and the guy they traded never played nor will ever play in the NBA. Now it makes some sense.

I'm shocked that no one's started a "Let's sign Will" thread in the Rockets forum, what is this world coming to?

Wouldn't that suck to know you were traded for precisely because you are an overpaid washout, and then promptly cut after your salary was actually counted. In effect the only reason you were traded for was 1) you had a fat contract and, 2) you sucked so bad cutting you from one of the 10 worst teams in the league was a better strategy than keeping you there after your salary slot was secured.

Oh nevermind, I would go through that belittement too for the NBA's vet minimum salary.
