Does anyone know the status of Arvydas Sabonis. Would he be willing to sign for the veteran's minimum. He would make a nice addition if he could play for half the season that way if or when Dream goes down with something we'll actually have a true alternative to Cato, no offense Jason Collier. Do any of yall even think he'd be good for us, I mean he's old but a great (by today's standards) center. ------------------ Mr. President. No man thinks more highly than I of three legged cows. They deserve to live. On my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of reason. Cows with three legs are good. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth : three-legged cows are better. They are better because the meat on them is better. The steaks are more tender. Three-legged cows tend not to wander as much. These cows could be the symbol of our country. The world would look upon us with great respect. They will want our cows and pay good money for them. The cows could symbolize freedom and hard work and three legs are better than four. They are meant for us; they can be meant for no other.
I would love to add Sabonis to the team! ------------------ Protrolls.com! "I want to be like Olajon." -Sagana Diop has the right idea... Keep the ???? alive!
What about anyone else on the Blazers team? According to rumours, no-one is safe in Portland. ------------------ Homer Simpson: "I'm gonna tell you 3 things that will haunt you for the rest of your life! You've ruined your father, crippled your family, and baldness is hereditary!"
Arthritis Sabonis?? Gawd no...That horrible scraping sound that his knees make would drown out the PA system at games... ------------------ Mein bratwurst has a first name, it's F-R-I-T-Z Mein bratwurst has a second name, it's S-C-H-N-A-C-K-E-N-P-F-E-F-F-E-R-H-A-U-S-E-N
If we were actually making a push to get Webber I would say go for Sabonis, as he matches up with Shaq physically better than anyone else. But as it stands now, we are a few years away from serious title contention so Sabonis would just hurt somebody's development. ------------------
Agree w/WMagic. Unless we are making a push for CWebb and contention this year, let him go. Although he would be a great center off the bench for our young guys to work with...he makes players around him better because of his passing skills and willingness to do the dirty work. ------------------
Sabonis would be an awesome addition to this team, if we resign Dream. Sabonis is relatively healthy, except when you try to push his minutes. If we got him for a backup role of 15-20 minutes per game he would be a very good addition. He may not can get up to block shots, but defensively his body alone is big enough to clog the lane. Offensively, he still has a good outside shot, is one of the best big man passers, and he won't command the ball too much. We don't have to have Webber to contend, and you don't go into a season saying you don't want to contend and want to develop. We've done that for two years, and last year we were 45-37. We've already added Eddie Griffin and Terence Morris to that team. If Dream stays healthy, I don't know if you guys realize how good this team can be. Adding Sabonis and resigning our own free agents definitely gives us a shot at the 5 or 4 seed out West imho, and once you get to the playoffs anything can happen. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. The only thing that Sabonis would add is some excellent passing from the 5 spot. I think I would rather see Collier develop this year than bring another aging center in for a year. There is no benefit to that. Collier can be our future back-up C. If we don't give him the time to develop, then he'll probably end up being cut. Remember everyone, we will NOT win the championship this year. We need to be building for a good future. That means developing what we have. If after looking at that talent we decide that it is insufficient, then we can look for other alternatives. ------------------
I wouldn't mind at all acquiring Sabonis, but is Dale Davis still available!? I know that Portland was willing to deal him for a mid-first round pick, and I wonder if the Rockets could get him! ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air

How about a stat refresher from the last playoff series with LAL: 34.3 min / 11.3 points / 8.3 rebs / 2.3 blocks / 2.7 assists Against Shaq. He was the only TrailBlazer who played that series with any heart. And he doesn't need touches to be effective. IMHO, Sabonis helps the Rockets make the playoffs and the playoff experience for the team is more important than Collers' individual growth (and I am pro-Collier). ------------------ Raef to Rocks in '01-'02! Thanks, but no thanks. The guy is on his last legs...literally. He can't practice with the team, can't jump, and can run down the court. He's just a little too old for the Rockets right now, and it makes little sense to have to aging, injury-prone centers on your team. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
I also like Dale Davis, if he doesn't command much money he could help in the post at the 4 and 5. Sabonis in my opinion would only be good if he signed for the minimum he can make.
I would love to get Sabonis. He is a wide body, and yes he is playing on his last legs but he understands the game. Also his outside jumper should make him as effective vs the zone as he is now, unlike many centers who will have to work much harder to score. Is he the answer to all of our problems? No not by a long shot but I would rather see Dream/Sabonis/Cato/Collier to throw against Shaq than Dream/Cato/Collier/Mo (or Griff, kt, etc).

I have to agree with Cat and Gater.First of all, this team was about to roll into the playoffs with Dream getting healthy and in shape.I'm not saying we were ready to win the whole thing, but they were going to make some noise. He turned back the clock.....The man could score outside and in the low post almost at will, while playing his usual phenomenal defense. So many times Dream would have his man sealed only not to get the ball when and where he needed it.Too many seem to be forgetting his second half last year where he just flat out dominated on both ends when he was out there. Sabonis as mentioned brings one of the best J's in the game. He's a mountain of a man who despite the numerous knee surgeries can give you 17-25 min./game.With Dream's reduced minutes,Sabonis becomes a guy you can plug in and give us what we need. Fundamentally sound as all hell, the heart of a warrior(the same heart that has enabled him to play on knees that are almost bone on bone).....the passing just blows me away.He really utilizes that size to see the floor(ala Kareem),but has even better passing instincts. In fact Sabonis is probably the best passing big man of all time. His mobility might be limited, because of time and injuries, but he also uses that size around the basket both offensively and defensively.Sabonis doesn't need hops around the hoop,as he is very quick on put backs and getting his shot(primarily that hook)off. The guy's vertical must be 20",but it doesn't matter...The bulk really comes into play too.Look ,I love his game and would have been delighted to have seen him play in the NBA before he did. We're talking about a guy that would have been in the top 5 centers of all time. Why not have two of them now that come off the cap at the same time? So,they are at the end of their careers....so what? These guys could help each other play longer and at a higher level...more importantly they would help the Rockets immeasureably. I would NOT make a blanket statement that we will not win a championship this year and as far as this move hurting us for the future...IT HELPS...look at the capspace again that comes off with the two centers if we do this!Collier will or will not develop over time.....He's not going anywhere...I'm skeptical about him,but I know he's been hurting so we''ll see.Collier is not the priority here.If they can work out a deal with Sabonis for reasonable numbers,he supercedes Collier's needs at the 5 this year.....The only thing I wonder about is how many DWI's his wife would rack up living here in Houston?... ------------------ Everybody has a little bit of Watergate in em - Billy Graham
Hard, I'd have to vote Bill Walton as best passing big man of all-time. Alvin Adams was also a great passing center, eventhough he was only 6-9. Chamberlin also did very well in his later years. Sabonis is very good, but not sure I'd annoint him as the best ever! ------------------
I had no idea that Davis makes so much. He is not worth that. How did Portland afford all those guys????
THANK YOU CAT!! I am so sick of all this "we're not going to contend for a few years" crap. The Rockets can not go into the season playing for development, they have to go in expecting to win the championship. If they don't have that attitude, then they will never improve. I think this lineup: Francis-Norris Mobley-Anderson Griffin-Williams Taylor-Thomas Olajuwon-Sabonis would be second only to the Lakers. They probably wouldn't get the second seed, but that is definitely the second most talented team in the west. ------------------ Protrolls.com!
