As quickly as Dallas is movig out of our sites, Portland is moving in. As unlikely as that seems, they now have an identical record as Dallas and are only about 5 games in front of us...five games seems like a lot until you consider they will play:

    Utah
    San antonio
    Dallas
    Utah
    Clippers (who are blazer killers)

It seems unlikely that we will catch them...but who knows?

I just think that it is hilarious that the Clippers are on the list. Having them win again would be victory enough for me. The Blazers are in serious trouble right now.

I am as optimistic as the next Rocket, but with a dozen and a half (or so) games left we would have to win six games more than Portland and everyone else chasing them too!
Here it is: Assuming we can go a minimum of 50-50 for the remaining games, plus the six needed, that's 15 wins and 3 losses (using the 18 figure) PLUS we have to do all of this while all other teams below Portland are losing those extra six games too, otherwise they would just move up with us!!!! A tall order.

    Cheers.

I don't think that the Rockets can catch Portland, but catching Phoenix is an option. They only have us by 2 games and we have 16 left. The bad part is that out of those 16 we have to play 8 teams that are fighting for the playoffs 10 times(Seattle and Utah twice)starting with back to back games agianst S.A. and Sac. I don't know if I'ld like to face the Lakers or S.A. in the 1st round since they are the leaders in their divisions right now. But based on the way Mo Taylor has been playing lately gives me hope that he'll continue to provide some type of physical presence in the paint. If the Rockets can continue to be aggressive and play smart down the strech, I believe that they'll end up 7th in the West. We'll see!

    [CRINGE]GO UTAH!!!![/CRINGE]

here's something that i think is of more importance than portland losing. utah is only 1/2 half behind san antonio - and thus - the #1 record in the west. if utah can win, and if we can beat the spurs (lord knows we're due) then utah would be in first. assuming we finagle our way into the 8th seed, i'd much rather play utah than san antonio.

    Pops,

I don't think Valio was talking about moving up to Portland's spot (#6); I think he was talking about Portland continuing to fall and us passing them on the way down. I don't see that happening either, but...it would be sooooooo nice.

    Well the thing is MATHEMATICALLY
We could still Catch the Spurs and Utah
They only 10 games ahead of us. . . .

While on the other side . . .[EAST]
the difference between 1 and 8 is like 20 games

If Houston passes Portland, do you think Quitten will demand a trade back to Houston?

Yeah...I never meant to say Houston would necessarily catch or pass portland (though it is possible still [IMG])- just that they are finally in the same pond and swimming towards each other quite rapidly. I would love to see portland add to their 5 game losing streak by dropping their next five (if not more)...If that happens (like it does so often in my dreams) - who knows?

Passing Portland or finishing 5 games behind them is still a grand achievement considering the payroll/"experience" that they have on their roster.
