Portland is falling apart. Do we want any of the pieces?

If you are watching the NBA on TNT right now, you now doubt have noticed Portland going to pieces. No chemistry. It would seem only a cast iron moron would consider bringing back that team again next year, so I take it as a given several players will be moved. Do we want any of them?

I wouldn't mind Stacey Augmon, good defensive player and comes cheap.

    Stacy?
    Been there, done that.

The other question to ask is what does Houston have that Portland would want?

Role players w/o enormous egos and a propensity to get ejected.

Well, Augmon was the only one I wanted. At least he hasn't been ejected yet.

Maybe Portland would take Cato back.

He'd fit in well with this team.

Yeah, he doesn't show enough passion to get tossed.

Rasheed, no matter how many technicals he gets. He is still a top 5 player.

Rudy is a players coach, maybe he could work some sense into him.

He's not very good when he's sitting in the lockerroom after getting ejected.

And if it doesn't, there's still plenty of teams that would love to have his services, especially in the Eastern Conference.

Top 5 ? I don't know. On sheer talent, I can certainly think of 5 guys I would rather have. But, throw in the fact that Rasheed doesn't play in the 4th quarter, I can think of 15-20 guys I would rather have. At least that many actually.

As for Augmon, I don't think he's much of a player. Couple that with the fact that he didn't want to be here and basically made the Pip deal worse then it was, forget about him. I think he thought he was too good for H-town, whatever. H-town will look much better next year, Stacey.

I think that Rasheed Wallace has the ability to be a top-10 player in this league, but his temper keeps him from fully realizing that. I don't think the Rockets can really get him from Portland, and no doubt it would cost us at least our lotto pick and one of the other first rounders, but I think Rudy could turn him into the player he's capable of becoming. And if not, there are other teams who won't learn from that mistake.

As for Augmon, all he does is play defense, and he's cheap and even the Clippers would look good right now to him. And he's the only player on that roster who didn't look like an idiot or a jackass out on the floor.

Well there was Steve Smith, bu he wouldn't fit here.

I think Rasheed is a top 5 player in the league already. On a deep Portland team he is already a superstar. If his attitude was right I would take him even over Webber. He is better then Webber in one on one defense, he has a better ouside shot, he has better post up moves, and he is younger. Webber is a better passer and rebounder, but even in those categories Webber is not ahead by that much. If Portland is going to trade players, I would take Rasheed in a heartbeat.

I think I would pick Dale Davis, he seems to fit in our needs: big man, and good rebounding skills.

But I think he has a pretty big contract!

i agree with Davis. He works hard and has a wide body. He's one of the few guys on that team who isn't an "I" guy.
Rasheed has great skills (top 5 or 10 in the NBA) but his attitude & propensity to get booted holds him down. Maybe a change of scenery would do him good but that is a big risk.
