I am starting to put together some type of portfolio for job interviews etc this year... I was curious if most of you put together any type of portfolio (resume, cover letter, recommendations, writing samples etc) for your interviews... and if so what did you put it in (binder, etc) and did most of the companies keep it meaning you had to put together a new one for each interview? Any tips would be appreciated....
What line of work are you looking into that you want to put together a portfolio? Designer, writer or something? Lots of companies only want a one sheet resume...black and white, no frills. I guess if you want something to take to present at your interview, that would be OK.
supermac34... Economics major.. so more business/econ related. I didn't really think it was necessary either.. but someone mentioned recently putting together a portfolio with work from previous jobs etc.. and recommendation letter maybe... and the cover letter and portfolio being the first two pages.. And I've heard of places wanting a writing sample before so .. I was more or less asking here to see if having something to present was the "norm".. since I hadn't really heard of it but from a few people.. Resume and cover letter is fine with me though.. save me some trouble lol
Sorry. I meant cover letter, resume, maybe courses taken, rec letters, and sample work from other jobs in a binder more or less.. I'd probably prefer just the cover letter and resume... just was curious if most people bring more than that to interviews.. I can't type today, it has been a long last few days moving back to school
Ok I need to and will contribute soon.. so I can get edit back. I should add that this is mainly because I have an interview for an interview at a Hedge Fund this week.. and was trying to decide if I need anything more than resume and cover letter for it.. (although they've already seen both of those)
You are probably okay with just those two things, but if you have time, it never hurts to put together some other stuff...especially if it relates to hedge fund work. I've been directly asked for work samples before, but usually would email it later on.
jay.... yeah I don't have any hedge fund sample stuff.. I'm still in college and this would be a fall internship.. I have sample work from my work at Mayor's Office this summer but not hedge fund related.. I guess I don't really need to list all my courses I've taken etc...
