I'm having trouble trying to understand why we waived pops. Do we have a big man on the horizon? Or....why????
As the Toronto broadcasters said he can make a spectacular play on one end but then follow it up on the otherside of the court by breaking plays and generally causing WTF moments.
Right, but do you really think you can compare cook with pops? i mean, why not just waive cook and keep pops then?
Cook has a expiring contract, that might get Rockets a draft pick or a useful player if lucky. Plus, Cook beats everybody in practice.
I think at the time he was released some people had the impression the Rockets were doing him a favor so that he could hook up with a team that could offer him more playing time. The money thing too. I guess we were on the hook for Cooks salary where Pops was non-guaranteed perhaps.
Bingo. Of course the Rockets would love to cut Cook and keep Pops. But Cook has a guaranteed contract, while Pops had a partially guaranteed contract.
Did you see what he did in Toronto yesterday? Actually getting minutes and making an impact? That's why. He was a good guy who deserved that opportunity, and he wasn't going to get it here playing behind Luis, Carl, Chuck, et al. As has been stated, Cook is a nicely sized expiring contract. 3 to 4 million is generally an ideal amount to have sitting on the bench for making the money work in a trade.
He wasn't really given the chance here. He played maybe2 mins. in the season opener and that was it. Maybe it was Landry's awesome play, made it where he couldn't get mins. but Pops is a better player then Cook and Doresy combine.
Yeah that is saying much. Dorsey was a low risk project that did not work out and Cook's expiring contract is worth keeping. Pops can can look good at times but he has played enough minutes around the league to show his limitations. If he was worth keeping then he would not be bouncing around. DM>garm, anyone want to argue this?
I'm not sure what you're arguing. Of course Pops is better than Cook or Dorsey at this point in time, but those guys don't play either. It doesn't matter if you're a good player if you have 3 or 4 better players ahead of you. Especially if you have a small, partially-guaranteed contract. Waiving Pops was a good move by the Rockets to free up a roster spot and cut some money, and it was good for Pops because he actually got to go play somewhere. Even 6 minutes a game is more than he'd get here with the current rotation. There's really no mystery here. Nothing to figure out.
