Your bigotry is showing. Polygamy is not the same. Incent is not the same. Just because this idiot is trying to legitimize something....doesn't mean it will happen.
BTW it's absolutely ridiculous to block a marriage between two individuals assuming both of them consent and all children/family members' well-being is taken into account. Of course polygamy is going to be legalized in the future, it's already being practiced but with little to no protection for involved spouses and children. It is idiotic to put it in the same pool as incest lol. The real question is who on earth can even contend with having two relationships at the same time. One is tough enough and we already don't dedicate enough time to our families thanks to income levels frozen for 30 years while industry standardized, company mandated working hours eat more and more into our life. Why should anyone give a **** that people are seeking legal protections for a second relationship where all parties have consented? Those people are going to sleep together anyway, and that is highly damaging if not brought into legal protection for pregnancies/abortions/children at least. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I see it as a great thing, but I find it impossible to imagine a world where restricting legal protections for something like this can yield positive societal results.
Won't be long till people point and laugh at homophobes like you on the street. -said someone in 2011
One to cook and one to clean? Polygamy would be much harder to change laws to deal with as far as taxes and benefits go. There isn't already a system in place for it, although it certainly fits the bill of traditional marriage per the bible. I also love how people think there will be a rush to marry dogs, toasters, children, etc. It's as if the concept of consent has no meaning to some people.
Don't be a total fool and try to imply that acceptance of homosexual relationships will lead to acceptance of incest.
We could have created a new system that brought fairness and equality to all. Instead, the political machine preferred the division and discord. Now we are only expanding on the very broken marriage laws. I would prefer a civil union, picking and choosing what I want my life partner to share with me, over the marriage system of "all or nothing". How many divorces out there are tied up in hell because by default, assets must be shared. Or credit card companies chasing ex spouses because they were together when they racked up the debt. I have a coworker who cant get married until his g/fs finances get cleared up, or else her credit rating will prevent them from getting the house they want. Much of this could have been fixed if the laws were rewritten. Instead it was drummed on with "equal rights". Why would someone want equal rights when they can have better rights?
animals and children can not give consent and people are not born polygamists. all these attempts to compare gay marriage to bestiality, child molesting and polygamy are incredibly lame.
People are not born polygamists? Are people born monogamous? Are people born hard wired to be married? Honestly it is irrelevant. I agree with you on incest and bestiality. There is no consent... although I honestly don't care if someone wants to marry a horse... However polygamy is different... If they are consenting adults I don't see why it is anyone's business. There are ways to address the tax situation, divorce laws. It has long existed.
I'm neutral on the whole polygamy thing I think the current system we have in place is not fit to deal with multiple spouses there are cultures in the world that have practiced and are currently practicing polygamy with very little problems. As long as they are consenting adults, they should be allowed to reap the benefits of marriage under the law. but an entirely separate system have to be created for that, and that will take extremely long time given how broken the current system is.
The US has a solid history of making slow incremental changes and rarely massive changes. I doubt anyone would prefer to hold off on getting equal rights. Why would you think anyone without equal rights would want to continue without equal rights until they can have better rights? Why do you advocate that? What's wrong with getting equal right now and continue working on updating the laws to improve the system?
