Did anyone here see the Florida-Tennessee game today? If so, I'd like to know what you thought about the last play of the game that got Florida the win. I am not really a fan of either team, although I do like Tennessee a little more. But unbiasedly I'll tell you that I did not think that play should have stood. The Florida receiver (Gaftney) dropped the pass almost immediately after attempting to catch it. (and of course was hit afterwards) If you can't decide, ask yourself one question. If Florida had ran this same 3 yard quick out at midfield, and the Gator receiver would have held the ball for the same short amount of time, would it have been ruled a fumble? (They claimed in the play he caught it and then dropped it, which would of course be a fumble if not in the end zone) Judging the way I've seen referees judge things such as that in the past, I'll have a hard time believing that they would have. This game was really important, as it crushes the dreams of Tennessee to win the conference championship, and of course the national title too. Florida would have to lose two SEC conference games and Tennessee go undefeated in the conference for the Volunteers to make it to the title game. Won't happen. Anyway, I'd just like to get everyone's take on this. (unbiasedly please) Was this a touchdown? ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? he caught it... i don't understand your fumble question. you cannot fumble a pass caught in the end zone. the moment it is caught, it is a touchdown. Sure, it can be incomplete, but it cannot be fumbled. I think he caught it.
Hell no he didn't catch it. Just kidding, I wanted to act passionate about something. ------------------ "Everyone I know has a big but... come on Simone, let's talk about your but."
He caught it in the nfl maybe not but in college the rules are different he caught it ------------------ "It wasn't a fight. He punched me one time, that's all. That's not a fight. I don't fight at 30,000 feet. I had an education." L8 vs Stack
Achebe, What do you mean you were "just kidding"? How in the hell can you just be kidding about that? That is the most passionate pass of the year. I think he caught it, dammit. And no one can tell me differently.

HP, I was making a comparison. I know you can't fumble in the end zone of course because if you catch it its a TD. I was saying that if they were on the 50 yard line, and you run that same 3 yard out, would the play have been ruled a fumble? Because IF the ball was in the middle of the field, and they ruled that a catch and then a drop, it would have had to be a fumble then. And for the most part, it takes definite control I've noticed for the officials to call a fumble off of a pass like that. More often than not they just rule that pass incomplete. I was just saying that hypothetically, if Florida had run that play but NOT been in the endzone, do you think that would have been ruled a fumble? If you don't, then you shouldn't agree that it was a catch. Hope you see what I mean. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? it was not a catch. I apply the Two step rule. Or rather the time frame. I did not see him have DEFINATE *CONTROL* I think the defensive players hand inside held the ball up for a second. Even if the defensive player knocked it out it was GOOD defense. but as with most sports Tie goes to the runner [Offense] Rocket River ------------------
I didn't think it was good at ALL at first, but probably because ESPN didn't have any good angles on it at first. Now that I've seen it up close I think it was a good call. Good thing I'm not a Tennessee fan though... ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain -
I think it was a good call as well, and I think Spurrier is Satan. I only saw it at real speed, though. I'm glad I'm not one of the refs that had to make that call. ------------------ The Badministrator
it sure as hell wasn't a catch NO WAY he showed possesion , refs called it a TD too soon ------------------ This signature space for rent call 555 ...
It was definitely a catch. Achebe, when you said "Football sucks my butthole" did you mean a) football actually sucks YOUR butthole, or b) Football does not suck Just wanted to clarify. Cat:- Spare me the violins about poor old Tennessees's crushed title hopes. no, no... my particular butthole. ------------------ "Everyone I know has a big but... come on Simone, let's talk about your but."
Davo, I know exactly what you mean. I'm going through the same thing with Texas' loss- absolutely awful system. One loss shouldn't kill your dreams. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com 4th Friday of August= Rocket Day 1999-Steve Francis 2000-Maurice Taylor
