Tom Cruise Harrison Ford Denzel Washington Jack Nicholson Nicholas Cage Tom Hanks Al Pacino Gene Hackman Robert Deniro None of the above
I voted for Dustin Hoffman. I like him, probably because he reminds me of my father. I like Gene Hackman a lot, too. Most of the others are very, very talented, as well (I don't care for Tom Cruise, though).
Bleh.. Brad Pitt should be on that list. He's way underrated. At the very least he's better than Tom (the only role I can play is the boyish maverick hero) Cruise.
Hell yeah, I agree. I voted for Robert Dinero but I think Edward Norton should of been there. He is the best.
I took Hackman. He is just my favorite. Nicholas Cage, Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford don't really deserve spots on this list. Guys like Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Gary Sinese and, for the love of God, Sir Lawrence Oliver, probably should be included. Jimmy Stewart ought to be there also. If I went in order... Oliver Hackman DeNiro Hoffman Nicholson Brando Hanks Pacino Washington Stewart Those are just my personal choices though.
I agree Fadeaway,I think Pitt is way underated! From roles like Snatch to 12 Monkeys or Fight Club then he has other great roles like Meet Joe Black. I guess thats why I love Fight Club so much both Norton and Pitt in a strange movie which are my favorites
Pitt and Norton, though both talented, need to prove themselves over the long haul. They can't just make a few decent movies and expect to be shot to the top of the heap with the others. They need some longevity.
ugh. that was the most boring movie i've ever seen. on a related note, Ben Affleck just checked himself into rehab for alcohol abuse.
On that list I'd have to go with Hanks. Philadelphia Big Cast Away Forrest Gump The Money Pit A League of Their Own Toy Story Apollo 13 The Green Mile Saving Private Ryan The guy just has range. ------------------------ Jeff, Although that may apply to Norton, Pitt has been in tons of good movies. Kalifornia Seven 12 Monkeys Fight Club Legends of the Fall A River Runs Through it Snatch Interview With the Vampire Sleepers Seven Years in Tibet True Romance Thelma & Louise (okay, bit part, but still decent movie) ------------------------------- outlaw, You and I agree on "Leaving Las Vegas", sheesh. It is one of my personal least favorites. Although, I did like seeing what's-her-name naked, I guess you didn't even get to enjoy that part.....
Al Pacino is the MAN!! "Dog Day Afternoon" "Godfather I, II, and III (although he was best in "Godfather III") "And Justice For All" "The Devil's Advocate" "Any Given Sunday" Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins are also legends of the cinema.
And Snake Eyes, Gone in 60 Seconds and Con-Air are about as bad as it gets! I think it is fine to make bad films and be a great actor, but consistency is the key. Hanks made a couple of stinkers. Everyone has. But, to consistently make great films with memorable performances should be the standard.
* Kalifornia * Seven * 12 Monkeys * Fight Club * Legends of the Fall * A River Runs Through it * Snatch * Interview With the Vampire * Sleepers * Seven Years in Tibet * True Romance * Thelma & Louise (okay, bit part, but still decent movie) On this list, only about half are really very good performances. The rest aren't even close. I mean, Interview with A Vampire and Thelma and Louise? IMO, it requires a body of work that is consistent over time. When you think of the others, you think of great actors. When you think of Pitt, you think "movie star" but not necessarily great actor. In time, that could be the case, but he needs to stretch himself a bit. So many of these roles are so similar, it is hard to distinguish him as someone who has much reach as an actor. Just my 2 cents.
What about Robin Williams or Mel Gibson? *Good Morning Vietnam *Dead Poets Society *Patch Adams *Lethal Weapon Series *Man w/o a Face *Ransom Just a few that I could think of off the top of my head.
