So with some names out there as guys we could pursue, I think it would be nice to gauge where CF fans stand. I tried to make as many realistic combos as possible, but of course feel free to reply with yours with your choices and reasoning. First name is Head Coach, 2nd would be Associate Head Coach / Head Assistant. Cheers I'm all in on Nurse and want Abdelfattah as 2nd in command so he can be groomed buy a guy who went the same route, through the Vipers, ready to take over in a few years. Lucas can keep player development as his role. If Nurse will not be available, I'd give Cassell a shot if we get Harden and some vets, but also Abdelfattah if he's ready.
Is this what I prefer or what I think is realistic? The thread title is different from the poll title. I think the most realistic scenario is Silas starts the year and is fired if there's no significant improvement. Then they start a head coaching search with whoever is available at the time and Lucas filling in as interim head coach. My preference would be for us to install the best available coach (probably Udoka) today and let him work with the young guys the last few games and all summer long and have some input on personnel decisions. I wouldn't waste another second even if other marginally better coaches came available weeks later.
Ime Udoka Nick Nurse Becky Hammon Mahmoud Abdelfattah Kenny Atkinson Sam Cassell Frank Vogel John Lucas Stephen Silas
Sought-after coaches bring their own staff, and the staff we have many of them will be loyal to the HC or the lead assistants. There's typically an overhaul when a new coach arrives and they barely keep any of the previous staff. If I had to bet a dollar I'd bet they have promised Silas a shot at competing next season, but pure speculation on my part. My #1 choice is Atkinson. #2 is Nurse. #3 is Abdel Fattah. Then Vogel, Hammon, Udoka, Lucas are about the same to me all have a major flaw or two.
Hence the / NEW...and like Morey did with Adelman, I'm sure he'd insist on Lucas and or Abdelfattah being part of it.
The only 2023 -2023 season coach I want to see next season is Coach ABDELFATTAH ! The rest are not worthy! Y
shame we didn’t get to see what a Mahmoud coached team looked like the second half of the season, but he might have ruined the tank so I can live with it. I just have this feeling he’s going to be a really good coach in the league. I’m too risk adverse from the emotional battery of the Silas years, so I’d rather have proven candidates, but I hope we find a way to keep that guy in our org.
Vogel and Nurse are World Champions and Udoka has been to the Finals. None of these guys are coming to work for Stone, that’s not happening. If Feritta wants a high profile coach he needs to can Stone and get a respected emmadimitrovhis@gmail.com, as a first order of business. A realistic option is Terry Stotts. Good coach, IMO. Got bad rap in Portland, but it’s become obvious that he was not the problem there. Snyder absolutely over performed in Utah. That roster was garbage, he got them to achieve miracles in the reg. season, but logically got exposed in the playoffs, especially with Conley’s fragility…
I'm telling you. I don't think they are firing Silas. So this poll is mute. Having said that, Becky Hammon is a coach I have wanted the Rockets to go after for awhile.
The only 4 coaches they need to interview are Ime Udoka Nick Nurse(If available) Kenny Atkinson Nate McMillan It should only be these 4 coaches. Ignore the rest.
