No comments in this thread, please, just vote...this is not about who you WANT to win, I would just like to see who you think will win - as of today, Monday October 18, 2004.

    Thanks!

Haha. You thought people wouldn't comment just because you said not to? :p

Besides, your poll would quickly fall to the second page if no one posted.

A significant difference this time is that GWB has to run on his record.

Bush will "win", because if it's as close as it was in 2000, Daddy's friends on the Supreme Court will make it happen.

However, as far as I can tell, those futures are based on the winner of the popular vote, not the winner of the electoral college. As Gore, Cleveland, Tilden, and Jackson* can tell you, that's not the same thing.

As to who I think will win the election:

    . . .

Pretend I was able to find an image of a Magic 8-Ball with the answer "Reply hazy, try again" showing.

    * And presumably G.W. Bush, Arthur, Hayes, and J.Q. Adams as well. (From memory -- not necessarily correct.)

I don't think so. A lot of people I've spoken with that are voting for Bush are doing so because they're more philosphically aligned with republicans - strong defense spending, cutting taxes, ect.

My terse remark applied mainly to the independent, swing voter that decides most elections. These voters will now have to decide if "more of the same" is good enough.

You don't have to run on your record if you're running exclusively on "values." You can't disprove values; plus, they're maleable enough to justify about anything.

Bush has been an abysmal failure as a president, but since he touts "values," his record is irrelevent.

Brilliant strategy. Completely dishonest and utterly manipulative, but still brilliant.

When he runs on distortions of his opponents record, trying to create wedge issues and divide the country based on those issues, etc.
