It has not been a good war for the neocons, the cons and the militarists. We see more and more of them jumping ship. Many of them seemed to be intent on some how rewriting the history of the Vietnam War,which they claim was lost due to in no particular order: 1) the liberal press, 2) protestors, 3) the jungle which limited air power etc..

These factors don't seem to apply for this war. However, we are still losing in terms of accomplishing any of the constantly changing objectives, though we have suceeded in deposing Sadam Hussein, albeit at the expense of creating a weakened Muslim fundamentalist Iraq under the influence of Iran, which will lkely be as hostile to US interests as Sadam was.

It seems Imperialism still sucks even when instead of the alleged civilizing mission aka "The White Man's Burden of the 19th century, it is dressed up as bringing democracy to the Arabs. As we see and the world has seen demonstrated, support for imperialistic scemes lke the Iraq War is paper thin as most of the leading proponents are chickenhawks, who aren't willing to fight themselves or have thieir kids go. Long term support is not there either from the poor and middle class families, who bear the brunt of the cons" scheme and who are wising up despite payments of up to $40 k.

The neocons and Bush may have succeeded in one goal of getting rid of the Vietnam Syndrome, but it is being replaced by the Iraqi syndrome, which may well be be more lasting. This should be a good step for increased peace in the world.

    That's an overly optimistic assumption.
