Poll: lefties come clean for 2004

Discussion in 'BBS Hangout: Debate & Discussion' started by B-Bob, Oct 6, 2003.

?

What would you choose for the next 14 months?

  1. Economy rebounds dramatically, Iraq stabilizes, we bring soldiers home, and Bush wins in 2004.

    32 vote(s)
    54.2%
  2. Economy gets even worse, Iraq remains dangerous, more soldiers die, and Bush loses in 2004.

    12 vote(s)
    20.3%
  3. Given a supreme choice, we remove B-Bob from all computer access!

    15 vote(s)
    25.4%

Hi folks. This relates to thoughts in other threads. Overall, I am just looking for answers from those who would prefer to see a Democrat elected in 2004. Pretend for a moment that you are a supreme being and can choose exactly one of a few possible scenarios (admittedly vague), to explore a certain sentiment...

You can answer anonymously, so please be as honest as possible.

So the poll asks: what exactly would you trade for the 2004 election, if you had the chance?

Are those our only choices? That's pure lose-lose. I vote economy rebounds, Iraq stabilizes, no more dead American soldiers (or Iraqi civilians) and Bush loses, so we won't have to go through all this (and surely worse) again.

I like the first one, except for the last option.

That's what I hope for to, but if that stuff happens and Bush being re-elected is a consequence, it's one I can live with.

Oh, come on. There's no way a poll like this will ever get an honest answer. Ah, well, no one ever said you couldn't post unscientific polls here... Just keep in mind that the results here don't necessarily mean anything other than that Democrats stick together when presenting the good face.

Oh, and the wording is a bit leading on the options, don't you think? You can choose "All Bad" or "All Good". What do you think is going to happen?

I know. We (those leaning to the left) would all like to see option one with the subtle change of Bush losing in 2004. I am maybe hurting my own peeps here, but I'm interested in the answers.

Some people think, even with all the good of option one, that if Bush is reelected, the long-term effects will negate any short-term goods of 2003. In that sense, this dumb poll just measures exactly how grimly one views the man and his handlers.

Personally, I voted for option three.

And yet curiously, the "All Bad" option (the second one) actually gets votes.

Are you still sure that there are no Dems who care more about Bush losing than anything else? As of now there's at least one person here who thinks so.

    No Worries, was that you?

Well, see my last post. Maybe you're joking, but some people believe a 2nd Bush term will be disasterous, so his reelection is majorly "bad." Again, I gave you option three. :)

Look, I understand tyhat you guys think it would be bad, but at least one person here thinks it would be so bad that losing a war (and tanking the economy) would be preferable to a Bush reelection. That's just pure friggen hatred.

Oh, and the economy is starting to turn, BTW. For the first time since 9-11, we have a net positive on new hires - the job market is now moving towards the green. You guys had better hope that the economy stops this upward spiral, because if it doesn't tank then you're not going to have anything to b**** about...

I didn't vote - and won't, since this is for Dems - so don't get any ideas that it was me.

Gee, I should have seen this would degenerate to a tree versus the dems smackdown. Look, even if the economy rebounds, and I hope it does, we will have plenty to complain about. (Taking on nation building, controversial tax cuts, possibly criminal leaks, and so on). That's not what the thread is about!

Your posting so much in this thread is making me think you have lefty envy. :p

You're right, you're right. I retract my jab against you guys, I just couldn't hold it in...

Mum's the word, I'll just observe this one.

Economy will not dramatically improve or worsen in the next year, but will be a big issue in the campaign. Deficits will adversely influence any potential long-term recovery.

Iraq will remain dangerous. We will not clear out all the bad guys. Americans will continue to die. Some notable successes in the rebuilding will be reported, but the question of whether this could have been done in a better, more cost-effective way hangs in the air.

The Democratic nominee is either Kerry, Dean, or Clark. Bush's number continue to drop until the Spring but start to rebound in the summer as the GOP starts to spend the money. Bush and the Dem are close leading into the last week.

I chose 2, but it is no an easy choice.

I guess I dont care about bush, but I see him as the reason we have moved not only into Iraq(a bad situation) but also Afganistan(another bad situation) as well. you see you just mention Iraq. i suppose loosing 2 good young Americans a day to a stupid conflict for 14 more months acceptable. Acceptable because how many more will we loose in the next country bush decides to attack, and the next. If he has 2 terms I see 2 more invasions.

So these lives are one thing, but we cannot count the loss of life from whatever terrorist attacks that will be brought on by the world sentimate against the US. a world sentimate greatly affected by Afganistan and Iraq.

If I was all powerfull i would just remove all the war mongers from the planet in one foul swoop. I would make all disagreements settled by a triathalon. debate, thumb wrestling and a suim suit competition.
and I am actualy being pretty serious about this one.

In short order we will all be speaking Portugese, and watching soccer like every other good Brazilian. Think of the upside. no one would be up tite about sexuality or nudity, and we would all have rythom.
