No solo artists. Not a joke poll (so there will be no Styx). My buddies and I have been discussing this and I thought I'd put it to the Test here. He says Aerosmith. I say Velvet Undergorund, he's probably right.

There are a lot of different criteria we could put on this, but let's just say, in general, the Best American Band is...

USA Today did a poll on this in '05 that you can find here--> http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/popcandy/2005-07-05-pop-candy_x.htm

And yeah I didn't put the Velvet Underground on there because, I don't think they'd have enough votes...

Trick question. It's AMERICA. There is no other option.

I always think of Dave on NewsRadio accidentally playing a recording of himself singing 'Horse w/ No Name' now when I hear that song.

of course this is all purely subjective...

    i voted for the doors.

in all honesty though, i'd have to say alice in chains has consistently been my favorite (i am relatively young of course).

This is a better choice than any on the list, IMO.

You know my pick. But some ****tards who haven't even listened to them in years will disagree with me.

So there are definitely a lot of write in's, but the poll isn't meant to be subjective. I hate Aerosmith, but I have to put them in the top 5 in terms of importance, volume, etc.

Myself, I love the Pixies, and although they were very influential to bands of the 90's I can't vote for them because they just aren't well known enough to be the Greatest American Band. That plays a part.

of the ones listed, the ones that get the most play from me are Guns n Roses and the Doors.

but the Doors are a distant second.

i'm a huge Axl Rose, the musician, fan.

I hate putting "other" in these types of threads. You can state your "other" opinion in the post, but putting it in a poll just skews the results of the included bands.
