I said from the start it'd be fun to make this a franchise type thing, and that we could do it for more than one season. Most agreed with that idea. However, now, as we are getting towards the final quarter of the first season, lets talk about what we should do in the future. I don't have a problem either way-- whatever you guys want is fine. So here are the three basic options.

    1. Start the league over again. Everyone gets to pick a team again, first come first serve, with the rosters as they are today in real life. We would have a one round draft each season from about 3-4 of the not taken teams. This would allow us to have good drafts with star players at the top for 3-4 seasons, and after that we could have a rookie draft, etc. Also, not everyone understood the sim when we started, so everyone could start on a franchise type mode with a better understanding of the game. Even moreso, more GMs could get into the league. Obviously, the negative would be moves made this season would be for this season only.

    2. Keep the league going with rosters as they are now in the sim for 2-3 more seasons. Have a one round draft in each season (just role players are available now mostly, but they can still help) and start a new franchise mode several seasons down the line instead of after this one. All trades made in this season would therefore be effective for the next several seasons.

    3. Play a franchise mode now, but have this like a keeper league. Allow each team to hold 3 players after this season and submit all other players to a draft. The draft would be like 9 rounds obviously to fill out the rosters, which would be difficult, but it can be done. Which option do you like better? 1, 2, or 3? Or something else? Reply with opinions.

    I like the 3rd option.

It gives the other teams a chance to rebuild their team pretty quickly and it also makes the league alot more even if the top teams lose 1 of their all-star starters.

    Cat,

I really like the idea of a fictional league (if that is possible). The problem I see is trying to find an easier way to post the stats one needs to run such a league. In particular, the scouting aspect. All the players would have to be availible for us to see their ratings. Also, is the player generater on nba2001 very good. Does it mix in stars with good players busts, or would we have to create our on stars through editing ratings. A lot to think about. Anyway, I just about game for anything, but if I had my choice, I would rather have it all fictional. Part of the fun (for me) is discovering the new stars! BTW, you are doing a great job.

well honestly I could do any of the 3, but I do have a few questions.

when you continue into further seasons, do any of the players abilities change. I mean do rookies get better as sophs, and do guys like ewing get worse with age??

also with young guys like most of my team. they should all get a little better(except kidd, and maybe finley) but they are all just short of their prime. does the sim take that into concideration, or is it just the same ratings with shaq playing like his MVP year, and and adjustments you made??

reasons for asking. My team is great, but the lakers NOW have 3 SUPER SUPER STARS. so its easy for them to continue a franchize. I would obviously keep kidd, but Im sur I will NOT get as good of a team in the future. unless of cource youth mattered. in that case my youth would help me. ahh whatever. I will endeavor to win no matter what is decided.

    KBM,

To be honest, I don't quite understand what you're talking about with a fictional league. I'm sure its pretty simple, but I don't quite understand what you're saying... if you could or have time try and explain it a little better.

    VOR,

While not a huge change, I believe rookies do get better as sophs and guys like Ewing do fall off a bit. Age is taken into consideration in franchise mode. Younger players with upside (Bender, Lewis, Harrington, etc., those types) should get better and guys like Ewing, etc. should get a little worse.

    The Cat,

In a fictional league, you don't have real nba players like malone or duncan but instead you create or the game itself generates all new players. For instance, the game might combine the names of stockton and malone to create john malone, who is a center and plays like the kandyman. The only difference is there are no real players so the GMs must scout the player ratings to find the best players, you just can't go by the name alone. Also, if the potential rating is hidden (as I assume it is) some players that look good now might be a bust later. In this league, then, keeping players from season to season would be better so that we as GMs can watch our own players develop.

THE CAT- you have to give me props for option 3 man!!!

    all the way numero 3

    ------------------
The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

3, definetely. It sounds really cool, everyone gets to keep their marquee players, but those who drafted poorly this season get a chance to redeem themselves, and those teams which are just dominating everyone else will have to give up some players.

    I like 2 and 3.

But would we ever have a rookie draft?

Eventually yeah we would have a rookie draft... would like to wait a little closer to April and May to do that though when we have a better grip on the draft prospects and all.

I have to go with option 1 - but I like option 3 the best. why I want option 1 for next year is noone knew it was a keeper league, and with a keeper league all players should be available including Zo, Hill, Hardaway etc. They could be deemed out of the season as you said, but if people knew it was for several seasons then they might have drafted them anyway - or picked their team.
