Okay, simple poll: Do you back into parking spaces? Yes or no?

If you do, explain to me the logic behind it, because I think it's absolutely moronic, and need to be convinced otherwise.

How does trying to go backwards into a small space save time? Nine times out of ten, the person has to have at least two attempts, thus taking more time to simply park. There is usually a small space (maybe six feet wide) to fit into. When you back out of a regular parking spot, you have tons more space, in the form of an open road (the spot between each set of rows), to back out into.

I just don't get it. Someone please explain.

i dont. but for people who have to wake up early and run late a lot it makes sense. they have more time after work to fit their car nice and tight backwards, but in the mornings they have to slam the gas and sip their latte to work.

Yes, I do. Only if there is alot of space. Like no cars next to the spot.

    Most times, I don't though.

I back up into a spot, because I can save a whole 10 seconds when I need to leave.

When I worked at BP, they made you back into parking spaces at the plants. In case some stuff started blowing up, you can jump in and just take off.

I always do it. When you have a truck it's easier to park and leave.

If you ever worked for Schlumberger you would know. They did a test and did analysis from work sites/ insurance companies/ and god knows who else, but what it entailed is that EVERYONE (Employee/Contractors) working for Sclumberger is required (Mandatory) to reverse park at every Schlumberger company site. And on top of that if your a Schlumberger employee doing contract work for another company you are still required to do reverse parking...

Hell your supposed to go through a driving course whith Schlumberger if you were hired.

    Unless you're a pro at it. ;)

I seriously despise the people that sit there and pull forward, reverse 10 hundred times.

It just serves as a quicker retreat for me.

Let's say that it's a space that has a car parked on both sides of it.

How is it easier to fit the bed of the truck into that small space than back out into the open lot?

I don't generally, but it is nice to have the added visibility when pulling out.

I can usually get into a smaller spot if I back in. If you know where your car pivots, backing in should be easier. You back in when you parallel park, don't you?

No but I'll find two spaces together that are open and just drive forward in the front one. Voila!

    Exactly.

That's the only form of pulling out that I employ.

because its so much easier to back into a space, than it is to back out of a space, if you're driving a truck

I've driven trucks most of my life and I just find that it's easier to park in reverse especially in smaller spaces or garages. The greatest benefit is when you leave. Having to pull out of a small space is a pain in the a$$.

I back into my spots with my car and SUV due to the fact that the front end is lower than the back end. When i park my cars at restuarants, sometimes the front end scratches the curve and makes a terrible sound. I don't have any problems with the back end doing that.......just throwing it out there...

It's safer. When you park, just before backing in, you already know what's behind you (unless someone or something is tailgating you, nothing), because you've just traveled that space. When you leave the parking space after backing in, there is no danger, because you're already facing forward.

Parking traditionally, backing out of a space, there is a greater risk of running over a simple-minded child or small animal or car. You're less aware of your environment backing out of a spot, unless you're in the habit of walking around behind your car in the mornings and checking your intended path.

And for people who regularly back into spaces, it does not take two or three times. It takes one. In winter and with long driveways, it's also much easier to leave in the mornings; you don't have to scrape off the entire rear window just to safely back out, and can let the defroster handle most of the work.

You can also leave places more quickly, in case of fire, or being discovered sexing other peoples' wives/girlfriends (the thadeus-specific reasoning only).

I don't, and I get pissed at people in front of me who do. I hate it when I'm behind someone in the parking lot, and their brakes come out and then their reverse lights, making me either wait or reverse to accommodate their need to back into their spot.

Stop wasting everyone's time and go in frontward. Thanks in advance.
