I used to be a Colgate Total user, but recently I tried Aqua Fresh since Colgate Total has gotten out of hand in terms of the versions they sell with all of the dizzying added stuff and flavors. I am so far very impressed by Aqua Fresh, it is a very "light" toothpaste that foams up rather than sticks to your tongue and it seems to last a lot longer than Colgate Total.

Question is, which do you prefer and why?

I just use either regular aquafresh or crest "clean mint".

I think splurging on the lexus model of toothpaste is kinda silly... invest that money in a good sonicare toothbrush.

I wish I could find the consumer report that listed cheap Ultra-Brite as a top toothpaste over any of the more expensive versions normally used.

I tell my patients Colgate Total...just because I like their product and I stick with it. The other ones are good too, but my preference is in Colgate.

I dont even know the prices...is it that much more expensive? lol, I dont think Ive paid for toothpaste in over 5 years.

But you are correct, overpaying for toothpaste is silly...and a sonicare will do much more good than any toothpaste.

You can get regular Crest or Colgate for less than $2 while the "luxury" versions can cost $5-9 and maybe more

I just started using this stuff. It's weird, but I love the taste. I switched over from Colgate Total.

I use Colgate Total because at the time it was the only product with Triclosan. Is that good? Hell if I know, but that's what my dentist said a few years ago and I've used it since.

BTW, one of the reasons Ultrabrite is good good at whitening teeth is because it's more abrasive on teeth than the other toothpastes (it's made by Colgate) from what I remember reading.

The price difference of about 8-20 cents per ounce or about $0.50-$1.40 (on Amazon) per tube between regular and Total Colgate is almost negligible to me since I use a tube of the stuff for weeks.

If you want to know what is really expensive, look at this stuff. 4 dollars for .85 oz  It is great for polishing. I've tried it because I'm geeky like that!

Well, it was made to seem like its a major rip off...but a 2 pack of colgate total is 5-6 bucks...which is normal, considering that its one of the best toothpastes out there.

And no, I have no reason to know the prices of every brand of toothpaste. I get mine for free...and Ive gotten it for free since the first day I started dental school. In fact, I havent been in the oral hygiene aisle of a supermarket in 5 years as well because I get mouthwash, floss, etc... for free as well.

The only time I ever even talk about toothpaste is when a patient asks for my recommendation...in which I say "Colgate Total or anything that has fluoride". My emphasis is more on how they brush, rather than what they use to brush.

Thats the reason I use it and thats the reason I recommend it. No other major toothpaste has that.

I think its a great idea. Pay 75 bucks for prime, and get 2 day shipping on a lot of things you normally buy. The tax savings plus trips to the store are well worth it.

    Other.

To protect your grill and keep it whiter than snow in Aspen, I use a mixture of Pronamel and Rembrandt.

I've actually never looked into Prime because, for most stuff, I don'tcare if it takes 5-9 days to get to me unless I need it quick. I usually buy books throughout the year from Amazon. When I buy them, I look around the house and see if I need any household items. I have a general idea of what prices are for things and try to add that to my purchase to get free shipping if it's available. Honestly, though, you can get ripped off by some of the prices on Amazon. Sometimes Walmart + taxes is still cheaper.

I've stayed away from triclosan since I heard of some potential outcomes, but here's what the FDA has to say at the moment

    http://www.fda.gov/forconsumers/consumerupdates/ucm205999.htm
What is known about the safety of triclosan?
Triclosan is not currently known to be hazardous to humans. But several scientific studies have come out since the last time FDA reviewed this ingredient that merit further review.
Animal studies have shown that triclosan alters hormone regulation. However, data showing effects in animals don’t always predict effects in humans. Other studies in bacteria have raised the possibility that triclosan contributes to making bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
In light of these studies, FDA is engaged in an ongoing scientific and regulatory review of this ingredient. FDA does not have sufficient safety evidence to recommend changing consumer use of products that contain triclosan at this time.
