Along time ago, if you were white, you were expected to marry into white, or black vs. black...Now, we have seen mixing more and more. We have mixed to the point that it becomes difficult to choose, then the question is why choose?...Why not enjoy the mix up or weirdness as some would say about the mixing some 50 years ago?...I was watching an episode on Today yesterday about an artist who explores mixed children challenges and it brought to mind my personal feelings... This article below states it well enough: "Americans like answers in black and white, a cultural trait we confirmed last year when the biracial man running for President was routinely called "black". The flattening of Barack Obama's complex racial background shouldn't have been surprising. Many multiracial historical figures in the U.S. have been reduced (or have reduced themselves) to a single aspect of their racial identities: Booker T. Washington, Tina Turner, and Greg Louganis are three examples..." Read more: http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1880467,00.html Just as above, this forum works best when you are very black or very white, or more specifically very right or very left... If you are moderate or mixed, you can get chastised from both sides just like in race...Choose a side! is a mantra and an expectation...We have seen it and heard it....Sure we can lean one way, just as well as a biracial man can lean black, but at the end of the day that biracial man is just as much white as black...It may be argued that picking a side is inherent in adjustment, but is it?...from the article: "But new research says this old, problematized view of multiracial identity is outdated. In fact, a new paper in the Journal of Social Issues shows that multiracial adolescents who identify proudly as multiracial fare as well as — and, in many cases, better than — kids who identify with a single group, even if that group is considered high-status (like, say, Asians or whites)." So in fact it shows there is a reasoning to feel proud to be mixed or as some would say "weird"... So when that Census form is filled out, confuse them with your mixed identity answers in a proud manner...When your Arbor Day membership card is received, put it proudly next to your NRA membership card....When you order ammo and that spear from sportsmansguide, feel proud ordering the earth friendly Timberland Mountain athletics shoes... This may be the ideology of the future based on the simple, yet harsh childhood playground question of "what are you?"... Gray! The world is gray, Jack! - Clear and Present Danger (1994)
Well I see a common phenomena on the forum is that if some people are to the left and some are to the right of your positions ,some have a smug confidence that their middle of the road opinions have to be right and don't need to be supported by facts. This is common fallacy comes perhaps from the mainstream media that likes to report: "Some might argue that torture is troubling while others say it is clear that it is necessary and fun". Needless to say if you are on the right you don't have to support your positions with facts because your mentors Rusbo (as he calls himself) and Palin tend to be fact free. As Palin a procclaimed great defender of the CONSTITUTION to her teabagggers who jabber frequenlty about the Document said: we don't need a Consitutional Law Prof to be president. Now poor liberals and left-wingers are always under attack for being extrmeists and therefore must fact check and cite to sources.
I don't know what this thread is about, but... I disagree, though I might be proving your point. I don't think it works at all when your left or right. I pigeonhole those posters and assume I know their positions on any particular subject. I come to the D&D to argue, and there's no point in arguing with the black & white posters. It's a lot more fun arguing with someone whose seemingly illogical contradictions can open your mind.
