Does anyone know of a place to play Texas Holdem in Houston? Does anyone still play poker online? I'm just learning and want to find a place that I can play tournament style poker.
if you are just learning......stay away from the backdoor B&M poker rooms. They can be brutal. I also wouldn't play on absolute poker, way too many problems with that website have surfaced over the past several years. do yourself a favor and go buy a couple of poker books, like harrignton on hold em and no limit theroy and practice by sklansky and miller. then use a bonus code and drop 50 bucks on pokerstars or full tilt. play some micro SNG's like 3.00+.40. also try reading the beginners circle on flopturnriver.com about 50 times. I did this about 3 years ago, built my bankroll up to $800 in about a month.....
Yea, and he'd be one of them. Nothing worse than going to a room and players just sitting there when they're supposed to put in the blind and not used to fast paced live action. But we've all been there...first time at a casino I was just so nervous.
exactly my point. but there are other things i don't like about back door rooms. many of them have props that are there just to drive up pots, so the house can take a bigger rake...... i hate when people run the river twice and take insurance etc........thats not poker. and as you said, people play with no poker sense whatsoever. it's pretty typical to see 6-7 players in every hand and 4-5 players will call out of position to a preflop raise 5-6 times the BB, and then you have a good game of bingo. you'll never learn poker fundamentals in a place like that, thus you will never be a good poker player.
Well you can still win in those games if you do have fundamentals to begin with. And running it twice doesn't bother me. I'm not in the hand and it's fun to watch. I've run it twice a few times, it's no big deal. Don't go to Absolute Poker. Go to Stars, grind out low levels while learning PROPER bankroll management. Then if you build up a roll, go to Full Tilt and get rakeback and all is well.
you cash out and been sent the money recently? i thought awhile back all that real money stuff wasnt allowed and banned?
pokercampus.com Good Houston area games are posted there. I play in a few and if you want the lowdown on a the ones I have played in PM me.
That's funny. I was just in Vegas and except for the running it twice part, it sounds just like the 4/8 game at the bellagio. that's exactly the kind of game you want to learn in
if you are 21 alot of bars around town have a poker night as part of a National Poker League. There are no buy-ins, as you are only playing for points. But if you are just beginning its a good way to get a feel for real life tournament style poker, as there is a distinct difference between online and face to face games... you also will find out quickly the stradegy to a multi-table tournament is a little different than a game with 9 of your buddies.
