I mentioned it last year, but have had a lot more experience with poker tournaments since then and am now very serious about putting together a poker tourney with Rockets tix as the prize. We would play Texas Hold'em with a buy in of $20. All of the proceeds would be used to buy a season ticket package, the size of which would be determined by the number of players (if we had 78, that would be 2 tix for a full season ). Once the buy-in is complete and we have determined the package to purchase, any additional funds could either be distributed evenly among the players or used to purchase refreshments for the game. Every player will get $50 in chips with blinds at $1 and $2 to start. Every hour, we will take a break and double the blinds. After the fourth hour, we will add antes to the mix and the ante will be half of the small blind. We play until only one person is left. Payouts will go to the top 25% of players with 1st place receiving roughly 35-40% of the tickets and the rest of the tickets distributed between the remaining players in the top 25% (actual payouts will depend on the number of players). So, if we have 24 players, that buys 2 tickets to a 12 game package giving us 24 total tickets to play for (and $24 to divvy up or buy beer, soda, etc.). In that example, 6 people would be "in the money," and would be paid out as follows: 1st: 9 tix 2nd: 5 3rd: 4 4th: 3 5th: 2 6th: 1 Following the game, the winners will pick their tickets in the order of their place, one ticket at a time. First place chooses one ticket, second chooses theirs, and so on. Once the last place has chosen, the picks continue at the top of the order. The way I understand state law, it is legal to run a home game so long as the house does not receive a cut and the odds are even (nobody playing in teams). If there are any lawyers that can expand my understanding of this law or if I am mistaken, please let me know.
Not in a home game, AFAIK. My last game, a 13 year old made the final table, knocking out his father to get there.
I'm in if I don't have a conflict with the date. I played last night. Won the first tourney and lost (I had an Ace high flush) to a full house in the second. That's just the way it goes.
I probably know a couple also. I bet it is only a matter of time before RM95 chimes in here and wants in.
Am but a poor corrupt official....but if I can avoid a date conflict I am in (my job LOVES to work me weekend afternoons)
