I think it is completely wrong just to ask what point guard you would rather have than Steve. I think it depends on the situation and the players on the floor.

With the situation that we have now I would like a point guard that passes well, runs a discaplined half court offense and can knock down the open jumpers on a consistent basis. I don't not feel like we need someone that can creat his own shot or even take over a game with his athletisism by dunking over 7 footers. If Kelvin Cato were the starting center on my team than a point guard like Steve or Baron Davis would be great IMO.

Since we want our team to play inside out then I would prefer one of the following:

    Jason Kidd
    Jason Williams
    Kirk Hinrich
    Brent Barry
    Mike Bibby
    Eric Snow

Those are 6 off the top of my head that I can think of.

I don't think any of them are as talented as Steve, but I think all would fit our system better than Steve and I beleive our team would be better with those players.

    kidd
    bibby
    cassell
    jason williams
    nash

not tj, and not hinrich (yet)

I didn't include stockton ONLY because he's already retired and 40.

as far as steve being more talented, in what I ask??

    Is he more athletic? yes
Does he have more hops? yes
    Can he crossover better? maybe

But what has it gotten us thus far??
    Nothing.

I'd rather our PG be smartest on the team and reserve the most athletic to one of the other four positions.

No point guard has done more with less in the last 4 years than Francis except Payton and Kidd.

I disagree...When TJ Ford heals from his back he will have as good of a career as Kirk Hinroch and will be regarded as one of the top pure point guards in the league...but I am biased :p

I think the #1 compliment to Yao in the entire league at the PG position is Mike Bibby.

He's excellent from 3-pt range, and tremendous from mid-range. He can go to the hole if/when necessary. Great asst/to ratio, good defense, lots of heart, and is clutch.

I wouldn't say he's better than Francis. However, Bibby-Ming would be MUCH better than Francis-Ming.

However, as someone else put it, Francis-Cato (for example) would be much better than Bibby-Cato.

For this team, I'd love to have these guys at PG:

    Bibby
    Nash
    Hinrich
    McInnis
    Tyronne Lue
Damon Stoudamire, but I wouldn't pay him what he's getting
    Gary Payton
    Sam Cassell

Jason Kidd and TJ Ford dnot' play a style that suits Yao.

Are there any starting point guards who are worse than Steve? By means of passing, protecting the ball, fast breaking, clock control. I would give up Steve for nothing to just clear the cap. But in reality, it doesn't work that way in NBA.

I agree with Lyu03 about Steves poor abiltiy at being able to control the ball, making stupid mistakes that point guards should be making, and just flat out immaturity on all levels on and off the court. Im getting tired of the guy and its been 5 years and his game has completely regressed so if he wants to be traded in the offseason I say go for it.

That's exactly the point. Francis is a guy who does well with less around him. In fact, he would be at his best with NOTHING around him (ISO 1 on 1). But now we have SOMETHING, and he's not doing that good.

Haha this is one of the funniest statements I've even seen posted here, just cause it's so far off from reality. :D Taking your team to the lottery every year you've been in the league is a big accomplishment, I tend to overlook that fact and forget.:p

Im gonna try to list all of the leagues starting pgs
then i will type yes or no and if yes (why)

    Pacific
    1. Mike Bibby- yes
better outside shooter, good clutch player, steady, would fit better into our system.

    2. Speedy Claxton- no-
but i really like his game. I think he is just too small and injury prone, but for his size he's great and can really get to the line. May be quickest player in NBA.

    3. Damon Stoudamire- no
Too much history, even though hes been great the 2nd half of the season, i tend to hate 5'10 pg's.

    4. Gary Payton-no
Too old for my tastes, talent has dropped a lot in recent years (especially on defense).

    5. Marko Jaric- No
    Just an average player.

    6. Luke Ridnour/Antonio Daniels- NO
Antonio isnt quite consistent enough and doesnt shoot the ball well enough and Luke is too young

    7. Leandrinho Barbosa-No
although I love his energy, he doesnt fit our game. I think he is more of a broke college student's steve Francis.

    MIdwest
    8. Tony Parker- Yes/Maybe
I think parker will be an awesome pg before its all said and done. I mean the kid is 21 and he has gotten a little better every year. He will never be the rebounder steve is, but he can probably be a very good scorer with his speed.

    9. Steve Nash- YES-maybe
Maybe the perfect pg for our system...actually his defense sucks..so thats a maybe. But leaning towards YES!

    10. Sam Cassell - Yes/No
Yes I love his game for our team, but is he too old? and is his defense too weak?

    11 Carlos Arroyo- Maybe
If he could always play like this year he'd be good for our system, but he will probably fall off.

    12 Andre Miller- Yes
I think hes just a more knowledgeable pg than steve. He is a poor outside shooter too, but he is very good on the break and in the half court at setting up his team. He can rebound and can score a little bit.
    -
    13 Memphis- Jason Williams- NO
I dont care how good he is he has made racist comments towards asians, screw his lil W.Virginian redneck butt.

    EAST
    14. Stephon Marbury- Yes
    Anyday of the week.

    15. jason Kidd- Yes
    any second of the day

    16. Rafer Alston- No
    Steve is still better.

    17. Marcus Banks- No
    uhhh

    18. Eric Snow- Maybe
I dont know how effective his poor shooting will be for us, but his defense and ball management is pretty good.

    19 Gilbert Arenas- Yes
I really think hes gonna be a great player before its said and done.

    20 Tyronn Lue- No

    HAHHAHAH

    21 Baron Davis- Yes
But with reservations...too much of a steve clone, but I think hes a bit smarter...may just need a change of scenery.

    22. Tj Ford- Maybe
Size and shooting concerns, but that court vision is great.

    23. Jeff Mcginnis- No
    Not enough for stevie.

    24. Toronto raptors- No
    They have a PG????

    25. Jason terry- Yes

may be a good fit for the rockets

    26. kurt hinrich- Yes
Im willing to take the gamble on him.

    27 Chauncey Billups- No
    a poor man's steve

who am i missing? i need to go home

Is this the same Jason Williams with a tatoo of a Chinese character on his forearm?

    Bingo.

Steve's talent lies in doing what comes naturally. He's best when there's no script. The problem is that he can't get it done by himself, and he doesn't know how to get it done with others. He doesn't excel at making other players better. That's the kind of point guard we need -- as does everyone else in the league.

I really don't think Steve and Yao belong on the same team, although I'd love to see it work out. But they don't complement one another very well. There are a lot of good players that wouldn't necessarily work with Yao. We won two championships with complementary players, not necessarily more talented players. Everything was built around Hakeem. I just think it will have to be that way with Yao if we're going to go anywhere in the future. We'd probably be doing both parties a favor by trading Francis -- the Rockets and Steve would be better off in the long run.
