a better question would be more specifically, who will be the PG next year?

ward is already signed for the next couple of years. i believe gaines will meet the same fate that boki will be faced with.

lue has one year to audition for a spot on next years team. my guess is that he will be let go and we will look towards FA's.

jeff McInnis, earl watson, marco jaric, darrell armstrong, bobby jackson, damon stoudamire, steve blake, gary payton, and kenny anderson are the only PG's worth looking at.

payton, stoudamire, mcinnis, jackson, and watson will all be too expensive. that leaves jaric, armstrong, blake, anderson, and of course lue.

obviously no body can predict who will be available in trade, and who will be resigned, but as of right now looking a year into the future thats as acurate as anyone can get.

Rockets should spend the whole MLE on a single PG next season. After that, a good backup 5 signing will complete the process of building a dynasty.

I actually would say Jaric is a poor man's Hinrich... But I'm not that familiar with Jaric or Blake. I say so mainly because, if I'm not mistaken, Jaric is the better shooter.

Steve Blake is a keeper for the Wizards. I like his game. Calvin Murphy compared him to Kirk Hinrich too. The Wizards protected him from the expansion draft and left Juan Dixon exposed. They see what I see. He's a good backup to Gilbert Arenas, and I think he would run the offense better if Kwame Brown becomes a good low post player. Everyone has seen how combo guards play with dominant big man aka Steve Francis and Gary Payton. Arenas is a combo guard while Blake actively looks to pass to his teammates.

Barring injury, Reece Gaines will be the primary point guard next year (2005-2006).

I realize I am going out on a limb, but this is why I believe it. The Rockets went out of their way to make sure he was included in the trade for Tracy McGrady. Gaines has all the tools and the pedigree required for the PG position except one -- familiarity with JVG's system.

As I have said on more than one occasion during the summer, I do not expect Gaines to play much in the first half of the season. However, by the second half of the season, his playing time will increase as he earns Van Gundy's confidence.

Gaines, a victim of bad coaching with the Magic, plays under control, and that is a quality JVG likes. He has young legs, 6-6 height and is a capable scorer as he proved at Louisville.

We know what we are getting with T-Mac. However, I think the steal of the trade was Gaines. Here's to hoping Gaines proves me correct.

I think JVG will re-sign and play mark jackson before playing gaines. Just a gut feeling.

Spoon, MJ, Oakley, Ward, Deke..........Where's Chris Childs?

The proof of the pudding is in the eating -- and crow pudding is a dish best served cold. The season will determine which of us will prove correct.

I don't see a point guard being as important for the Rockets. McGrady will probably bring up the ball a lot, unless JVG stops him.

Agreed. Any of the players mentioned could work out. Any of the players mentioned could be hihgly detrimental. We just got to make sure we get the as mistake free as possible role playing PG.

My personal opinion is the PG of the future is not on the Rockets unless it is Spounalus (?).

I would like to keep Lue as a long term back-up however after this season.

One thing settling me down a little is that we do have a TE of around 5 mil I believe. If things are really working poorly among Lue, Sura nd Ward before the trade deadline we probably can fix that--even this year.

Add NVE to the list if he's healthy.

And a majority of those pgs you listed as too expensive will not be out of our price range. None of them will command significantly more(if even that) than the MLE.

Bobby, i hope, will be our PG next year. I think he fits the mold of a JVG player and will push us to a Championship.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Antonio Daniels. I personally think he is in the top three of likely candidates to start at PG in 05. He has a player option next year that he will probably exercise. Rox interest in him was confirmed this year. He's a good defender, great Ast/TO ratio, a solid, if not the most talented, point guard, solid perimeter shooter, and is 6-4. He fits the mold of experienced veteran role players that JVG likes, and at 29 is still good for another five or so years. I'd be more than happy if the Rox offered him a four-year-deal with most of the MLE.

A young talented point guard like Hinrich to grow with Yao and T-Mac would be nice, but veteran role players like Daniels are more likely with JVG as coach. And that's not necessarily a bad thing as guys like Daniels are easier to obtain.

It's kind of hard to perdict what the future is going to hold but you have to wait and see how this year progresses. I don't think we are keeping all the PF we have and will most likely make a move sometime in the season to give another team a PF that they need.

We could easily package that off for some draft picks and maybe a decent point guard then use that draft pick for a point guard of some value.

I don't like to think anywhere past this season cause so much can happen.

i completely forgot to add him because i just looked up unrestricted FA's. he is probably JVG's first choice next year.

With the retirement of Pippen, Chicago has 16 players under contract on their roster & Duhon is still unsigned. That's 17 players, & 6 of them are PG's. Even if they play Gordon at SG, that still leaves them with 5 PG's.

Would anyone be interested in trading for Frank Williams or the rights to Duhon? Williams has 2 years of NBA experience & statistically, looks like he can do the job.

What would you give up to get one, or both, of them? A couple of 2nd round picks for one of them? How about a conditional #1 pick for both of them?

Would either one of them be worth trading for?
