I should listen to those more often. - a lot of praise for Lowry and Miller in helping to turn things around - both feel Lowry is best suited leading the second unit, and Brooks should play with the starters - Derek Rose is another Rockets killer in the mold of Jason Terry or Brandom Roy (and Friedman's second favorite team is the Spurs?)
If they posted that in the GARM they would get swamped with contrarian views. These guys are close to the team and employees of the Rockets too, and you know this is the way the team is thinking. I would be interested in hearing what other fans think about what the team is thinking..... DD
People should really hear this podcast it explains a lot of what everyone on here has been debating, and what the organization thinks about rotations and players etc. Very enlightening. DD
This may seem cynical but I wouldn't expect Rocket employees to actually challenge the coach's rotation decision in public. You'll never hear Friedman say Lowry should continue to start when Adelman's already said Brooks will return to the starting lineup, or criticize a certain player. Which is fine: he writes for Rockets.com and within the restrictions, does a great job.
It is not cynical, and they are only discussing the Rockets, but you know they are saying what the coaches are planning to do, or what the organization believes. Precisely because they are embedded, if people take off their bias and listen to what is being said, by the Rockets' employees themselves, they will understand what the team is planning to do. And that is exactly what some of us have been saying all along. DD
I agree with this. They are not going to publicly advocate a big shakeup in the rotation (and moving Brooks to the bench would be just that) unless they knew the coach was planning to do it.
That is the point though Durv, and they explain in very good detail about how the team is constructed, why it makes sense, and why it works for the team. The entire Lowry vs Brooks debate is innane, and nonsensical, the decision has been made, it is what it is.....but don't you find it funny that when real hard evidence about how the organization is thinking is posted, that a good many of the folks ignore the thread? DD
I don't think any decisions are fixed. Adelman really likes Lowry and he of course sees the developing chemistry. Morey himself admitted in the recent 610 interview that he'd like to see guard combinations with more balance -- i.e. Lowry+Martin, Brooks+Lee, Brooks+Lowry, etc. Adelman is also a big believer in Brooks, he's generally fair to his players, and I think he's going to give him a chance to keep his starting job. Its not really a slight on Lowry or even an indication that the coach thinks Brooks is the superior player. But if the team falls off again, given the last few weeks, Adelman will be more willing to move Lowry into the starting lineup than he might have been before. He's seen what Lowry can do in that role.
Right DD, these guys probably do have a good understanding of what the Rockets WILL do. But isn't most of the conversation here about what the Rockets SHOULD do? We're all GMs and coaches in our head, that can be as interesting as what actually happens.
I totallly agree. Agree that it is no slight on Kyle, but it is definitly an indication that Adelman thinks Brooks is the superior player. I agree here as well. DD
I really don't think they're talking about what the Rockets are definitely doing, just expressing their opinion. I think they should have a disclaimer
They work for the Houston Rockets, if they voiced a contrarian view they would probably not be working for them for long. DD
Yeah, they would never say Adelman doesn't know what he's doing out there or fire Daryl Morey, they aren't talking in the GARM. I'm referring to rotations, proposed trades, game analysis, things of that nature, those are what their opinions are. Unless of course they preface it by saying what they heard from coach or DM.
That is pretty much what I am saying, we can all agree that Adelman knows more basketball than all of us, and he has made his decision pretty clear, he chose Brooks. Seems that is the opinion of the coach, and guy who knows way more about the game than any of us. DD
like when Jason predicted that the Rockets would lose to the Blazers 2 years ago in the playoffs that sort of contrarian view?
Not exactly, a prediction is not the same as questioning the decisions of the head coach, now is it? And, I could be mistaken, but wasn't he still with the Houston Press during those playoffs? No matter though, that is not on the same level as what I am talking about. At the end of the day, I agree with the Rockets about who should start, and the contrarian voices do not.... I was the contrarian voice when Rafer was here, so I understand your frustrations..... DD
