    Her name is Zhang Liangying, also named Jane Zhang, a college student majoring in english, 20 years old. She gained all her singing experience through working as a part time pub singer, has had no professional music training, and has never been to any english speaking countries.

    She became famous in a singing competition tv show this summmer in china. Medias and pop fans in china are saying that she may have the potential to be the first native chinese who can make a name in the international pop music market. But there are lots of people doubting her future too, arguing that though she can sing english songs quite well by chinese standard but is still far from good enough to compete with native american Soul or Jazz professional singers.

    I like Jane; I am a big fan of her. May posters here please do me a favor by telling me that, to judge her singing by US native standard, is she good, or just average, or not good :( ? I will probably show your words to Jane-bashers. Help much appreciated. :)

    excuse me, what's the meaning of "pooper worthy"? and what does "shes no wing" mean?

    btw, it is not her clothes, that's how the singing competition show dressed her.

    Have no idea on the wings comment though.

    The girl can sing, don't know about internationally since it takes more than the ability to sing to get famous (all about having an market). Look at Asians like Coco Lee, Hitaki Urato (or some thing like that), good looking, can sing and speaks english very well, yet neither one has made any progress in the U.S. except among Asian college students.

    Okay, for a real reply:

    She's very attractive, and has a nice voice. I think she's got more vocal talent than a lot of the US pop singers. Unfortunately it's not always about the talent in the music industry, and she still has a little bit of an accent too.

    all right, looking attractive is definitely an advantage. now more on singing please, compared with American Idol contestants, what level is she in?

    I am not in US, so never got to watch it yet.

    Thanks, I am a big fan of Jane, to hear you say that she has some talent does make me feel happy :D

    This girl was actually born and bred in a low-income family. Her mother's salary is only a little, her father passed away when she was 15, and she started singing as a pub singer since then to manage to feed herself and pay school tuition. A lovely girl with strong self-respect, her dream is to save about 80 thousands dollars by her own's effort , so that one day she will be able to come to US, to meet her idol Mariah Carey, and to study in a best music college. After becoming famous, she has turned down offers from many record companes, because she doesn't want to sing not-so-good songs which she can't enjoy singing. She also refused the idea to receive donations from her fans, because she doesn't want to owe any people any thing.

    with talent, good girl... :)

    Why is she singing songs in english for a Chinese singing competition? Sounded pretty good.

    Extra points for the school girl outfit.

    Since you can't get a real response to the question you asked...I think she is very good. Her voice sounds very nice. I'm not sure I would run out and buy a cd from her, but I think she's better than a lot of our pop stars.
