I don't even know where to begin. It was just a couple weeks ago we were grilling steaks and chewing on various animal flesh. Well sometime in the last few weeks, she read some book called "The Food Revolution" and now she's making Lasagna with Soy Crumbles and coming up one step short of saying "meat is murder" I'm conflicted man, I'm like seriously conflicted. I understand not eating meat for health reasons, but all the political stuff is what I don't agree with. The whole "animals have feelings too" stuff. I don't want this to turn into an Animal Rights argument, I'm just wondering if I shouldn't be making a big deal out of this or not. And she says like "Oh its just a personal choice, just something I want to do." But how am I supposed to feel? When we go out to eat at a nice place and I order a big juicy one, how am I not supposed to feel guilty for sucking down a side of beef while she's chomping on a plate of carrots like a rabbit. She's coming at me with a ****load of facts though about how animals are just chained up like prisoners in metal barns that aren't too far off from Nazi Prison camps, and a lot of them are slaughtered inhumanely. I'm not for the willful, malicious killing of animals at all, but I try not to think about how food gets to the supermarket you know? Ignorance is bliss, if you knew how Yogurt was made you probably wouldn't want to eat that **** either. I guess I feel threatened because devouring a sweet, innocent animal is one of the things I truly enjoy about being a human being. Tell me thats so wrong.
Here's a good strategy. Since finalsbound is on this board, I highly recommend either answerology.com or ask.metafilter.com for advice. That way you can get secret advice that she can't read. It's a win win
hell yeah finalsbound now when I am in houston I wont be the only one ordering non-meat!!!! sorry moes AND AND isnt she your fiance now?
tell her we are helping to preserve their species by consuming them. and if you feeling guilty eating red meat then just eat fish. they don't make any noises when they die so it's ok.
Yeah, but I don't know how to say "fiancee" with the special accent over the first e, so I said **** it. I don't know how you guys can enjoy In-N-Out without getting the beef, oh well. I better learn how to cook something if I want to continue eating animals
no, she's talking about getting a pet "pig" though. How pigs are so intelligent and cute, etc. This is a month after we were waking up every morning and eating bacon and eggs before hitting the gym.
This is something I often think about as well. I hate the idea of any type of animal cruelty or slaughter but I agree with moestavern entirely: you try not to think about how it gets there. My friends think it's weird I don't eat chicken wings. For some reason I can't stomach the idea of eating skin. It's weird. I can eat a steak, chicken breast, ham or whatever but when it comes to eating skin or eggs I just can't do it without thinking of where it came from. I also know I couldn't possibly live off the soy, tofu and all those type of diets. I also think I would rather slaughter the animals with my teeth than ever become a Vegan. So like you said: ignorance is bliss!
