At about midnight, right outside my bedroom window, those damn Texas toads start to croak and croak, trying to attract one of their females. So I get out of bed in my underwear, go outside with a cup and a flashlight (and an umbrella if it's raining), catch the toad, and throw him over a few fences into a neighbor yard. But the croaking continues. One night, I removed 17 frogs. Last night, after I removed 7 of the noisy bastards, I gave up and went into the family room to sleep on the couch. There's gotta be a better way for me to get rid of these toads, and prevent them from returning! How? -- droxford
Good luck. I tried just relocating them into a vacant lot behind my house. They just came back eventually. They tend to like wet places. So if anything in your back yard is constantly wet, dry it up if you can.
I suggest giving "Rowdy" Roddy Piper a call. He blew the hell out of a ton of 'em in "Hell Comes to Frogtown," and I'm pretty sure he ain't doin' much.
There's no way you can get them out of your yard when it is wet outside. You could clean them out 100 times and it wouldn't stop them. Personally, I don't have a problem with the noise. I would recommend a noise machine for your room - even just an air purifier or something to drown out the toads.
what you need are some opossums! the other day one ate a frog at the bottom of my outside stairs, then tracked blood and parts UP my stairs to my landing! how do i know it was an opossum? the bloody footprints.
Are you sure it's not the endangered Houston Toad ? I try to foster the toad population around my house. They eat the mosquitoes and roaches and whatnot. My dog is addicted to them though. She likes to lick them for the bufotoxins. It makes her mouth froth up like she has rabies.
I use an inflatable snake from the nursery to help keep varmints away from our berries. Maybe that would help?
Aside from the family members, formal guests and pets, I am not crazy about any animals, reptiles or insects making a home on my property without paying rent. So I looked into what to what to do about frogs and toads when we discovered them. Unfortunately, all the gardening and pest control sources seemed to think that frogs and toads were a good thing and if you haven't got them you should import them to your yard and make a cozy shelter for them. I don't mind the croaking too much, it's better than the neighbors blasting their music from cheap car stereos. But my suggestion is that you round up the frogs and sell them to gardeners without any.
I normally don't mind the toads. But when they're incessantly croaking right outside my window while I sleep, my tolerance is limited. These suckers look just like the "Houston Toads". Fortunately, I'm not killing them, I'm just moving them. Aha! An inflatable snake? I might try that, or get a bunch of rubber snakes from the dollar store. When I hear the croaking, I will place the snakes out there and see if it shuts them up! I love this bbs! -- droxford
get something that can drown out the the toad noise but isnt gonna keep you up at the same time...like a fan set on high
