    JUST A RUMOR, FOR NOW.

Wachowski Brothers Bringing Superman to Life? Source: Micah Friday, October 31, 2003

'Micah' alerted us that Dark Horizons posted the following rumor about the Superman movie.

There's a rumor going around that the Wachowski brothers (the Matrix Trilogy) are penning a new draft of the Superman script.

It's an interesting thought considering "The Matrix Revolutions" opens everywhere next week. What would they work on next? Stay tuned.

Please, pull McG, the crappy script, and anything associated with McG off of the Superman project. This guy is a freaking idiot. He is what happens when you let a kid grow up watching MTV 24 hours a day. I still here that he's attached, but if it's true about the Wachowski bros, Warner needs to boot McG in his stupid ass.

While I completely agree with yanking McG, Jon Peters, and J.J. Abrams' disaster of a script, I don't know if the Wachowskis are the right guys to resurrect this franchise. Matrix Unloaded paled in comparison to the original and the word of mouth on Revolutions hasn't been too good so far.

I'm still holding out hope that WB puts the Superman project on hold for a couple more years til Smallville finishes its run. Then they could just have the TV show segue into the movie series. That way they have Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor already cast and they don't have to waste the entire first film on an origin story.

For me, I don't like Smallville or the way it's changed the story. I'd rather have a seperate and more accurate entity.

I know Smallville is popular, but to me, it's just a glorified reincarnation of "The Adventures of Superboy."

Just to keep things straight, the brothers wrote the Matrix trilogy as a single script. It was broken up into three movies because of it's length. If they are writing the script for Superman, don't use the problems their directing of the Matrix caused as a reason to downplay their script writing ability.

Damn:D I used to watch the Superboy series. I enjoy Smallville too, but my favorite character is Lex. He is the cool, rich and powerful guy , you don wanna mess with.

    Wow.

I'd go see this and I despise the Superman character. The Super-Neo scenes in Reloaded are ****ing awesome. I think they'd really do some awe-inspiring stuff if they got it, and could conceivably CRUSH Spider-Man's box office gross ( :( ).

Their scriptwriting sucks. The Matrix is good because of the special effects and fight scenes. The script has giant plot holes and horrendous dialog. I would much prefer seeing a movie they directed than one they penned.

That's the exact opposite of what the majority believe. Everyone praised The Matrix because of its plot and dialog, but those same people were let down because Reloaded moved away from the plot and filled in with all the action scenes.

Damn, I hit enter before I was finished.

The point I was trying to make to the original thread starter was that you can't pan the Wachowski's for a inferior follow-up to the The Matrix because it was all written at the same time.

I don't remember ever hearing that The Matrix was one big script divided into 3 parts. Who said that? It definitely wasn't the Wachowskis since outside of the Bound LD/DVD commentary, I've never heard them say a word.

As far as The Matrix goes, I thought it was a very well written AND directed film. Completely derivitive and devoid of any original ideas, but it did a brilliant job of making everything in it seem fresh and brand new. The problem with Unloaded is that it took itself way too seriously and went over-the-top with a lot of the action sequences(the Burly Brawl being the most infamous).

If they do end up being tapped to do Superman, WB better put a moratorium on the words "prophecy" and "chosen one".

I don't know, I thought it was one of the most well thought out scripts ever. As far as dialogue, I thought it was great. The different philosophical tibits and symbolism in the dialogue even made Keana Reeves sound some what intelligent. As far as the holes in the story, we really have to see revoulutions to make sure now don't we :p

But I can say this, I thought the script for the original was amazing. The social commentary behind it was only eclisped by American Beauty (unless you count Monster's Ball as mainstream also). In the second one, I love the stuff the maker said. It's definitely a movie that makes you think. I can't wait for te revolutions and there's no way Wachowski brothers can foul up Superman that bad. At the very least, let's hope it wont be worse than the post - Burton Batman.

P.S. When I said it was the best social commentary by mainstream, I was talking about recent big movies

But with Jon Peters producing, it's unlikely it will be very "accurate" (though how one defines accurate when the comic story has changed is open to interpretation. There are those who find Smallville to be relatively faithful to the comics, at least pre-1986 continuity anyway).

I heard a rumor back in August that Peters was removed from Superman. Hope it's true, or when Superman comes out, there will probably be a giant spider scene.

Still, just the idea of Lex Luthor living in Smallville, I mean, what, is this town supposed to be like Riverdale from the Archie comics? A small town that just happens to have a multi-millionaire living there.

He doesn't want to be in Smallville. He was banished there by his father. This season, they've seemed to reconcile(at least for the time being), so Lex is spending a lot more time in Metropolis.

Of course, making him an evil multi-millionaire rather than a scientist is going against the original Lex Luthor mythos.

I don't watch the show, so what evil schemes does this teenage Lex come up with? I like the actor who plays him, he does a great Flash for Justice League.

First of all, he's not a teenager. He's in his early 20's. And secondly, he's not evil....yet. He's had his dark moments in the first two seasons, but he and Clark are still good friends.

There are hints though of him becoming the Lex Luthor we all know. He's got a bit of a God complex now that he's survived several near-death experiences. And there was an early first season episode in which an old lady read Lex's future and saw an image of him in the White House(something that happened recently in the comic books).

YESSS!!! wonderful! now i can look forward to a CARTOONISH-looking fight between supe and a trillion darkseids in the middle of a city park or something.

(the more i look at my matrix reloaded dvd, the more i hate it. that neo/100 smiths park scene was pathetic... and you know how much i like the matrix.)

i hope they don't make the same mistakes with supe.
