Take a look at the picture to see how Yao was locked by two Suns and tell me how Yao can beat that kind of defense. BTW, is this legal? http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2004-01-29/1902749577.shtml
Damn this is almost like kidnapping!! I have a strong feeling that Yao still needs to do lots of strength training. He needs the strength to push those hackers back.
What he means is the double team before receiving the ball. Check the pic, it is pretty funny how Sun's players "take" Yao out of the game. BTW, the link doesn't work. need Copy+paste.
DaDakota, take a look at the picture before you say 'pass'. With both arms locked and front and rear pushed, Yao was not in a position to receive the ball, let alone pass. I watched the game against the Suns. It seems to me that the whole team just gave up in the 1st quarter after the Francis no show. I thought that Yao passed out too many times to outside shooters, but he did create numerous opportunities for his teamamtes, and his teammates could not hit any wide open shots.
Dada meant the other players pass quickly to the open player, then make the suns players rotate quickly defensively, and then if possible, look for Yao again....
The problem w/ this against Phoenix was, Cat was just off. Every one of his 3 pointers was WIDE open.....too bad he was off, cause he had every intention of hitting 30 that night. u could tell by his emotions.
we need a PF that can frickin score or at least hit a jumpshot but doesnt play defense like mo taylor.
This is how every effective team p lays Yao. They double and they generally double quickly or even before Yao gets the ball. It is as much a Rockets as a team problem as it is a Yao problem. Granted, Yao needs to learn that that is the way they play in the NBA - just ask Shaq. But, the Rockets need to learn that quick, sharp, SMART, passes in those situations should lead to either a score or a very good shot 75%+ of the time. Notice, a few times the Rockets did this, resulting in nasty Yao dunks or wide open jumpers. Still, there is no reason they can't do it every time.
A PF who could hit jumper shots would be helpful. Also YAO plays like he did in the road game against Celtics.
The team was also making crisp passes that game, uncharacteristically. I may be wrong, but I believe that was the game in which JVG went off on them just before about being unselfish and making quick passes.
This is clearly illegal. NBA rules are a joke. The ref. should have blown the whistle. No weight increase or training will get you off two 250 lb guys holding you like this.
