I am having trouble getting my Playstation 3 and laptop connecting so I can play my songs on my laptop via PS3. Whenever I do a search for media servers on the PS3, it returns that it found none. I have enabled sharing on WMP 11, tried turning off my firewalls, and tweaking a few other settings but nothing has solved the problem. Anybody know what the problem might be?
Well it worked with my desktop but I am redoing my desktop and want it to connect with my laptop, just unsure of what the problem is.
So you opened Windows media. Click on tools, went to library, clicked on configure sharing, found the ps3 and clicked on allow? It should pop up after that, sometimes you have to add the folder that all your music is in by clicking monitor folders and adding that folder to the watch list.
I could never get mine to work on WMP. I tired everything. I think some people are just lucky. Just DL TVersity.
I struggled forever trying to get my media server stuff to work but recently I got it working perfectly. I can even stream 1080 over our network to the big screen! The solution was so stupid simple that I regret not figuring out sooner. First of all, you need to use this program. You start it, tell it what folders to scan and you are done. Second, determine the best way for your data to get there. I used to get all kinds of crazy errors with the wireless, spend hours changing ports blah blah blah. And then it hit me.... there are ethernet ports on the back of most cable boxes. I have U-verse and there is one on each receiver. My computer is right next to my box in my bed room and obviously my ps3 is right next to my box in the living room. I plugged in an ethernet cord from my computer to my cable box. Then I plugged in an ethernet cord from my ps3 to my other cable box. I started ps3 media server program......... and it all worked! No messing around - it just worked! Everything is transcoded automatically by the program linked above so I have never had trouble playing ANYTHING I get off the net. Theres even a way to play without subtitles! (unless they are hard coded duh) Your network needs to have enough bandwidth and your computer has to have enough computing power to do 720p 1080i stuff, but it will surely play normal stuff if your equipment cant handle the HD. Hope this helps
Install it then add crap to the library similar to how you do with WMP. If you have it set right the PS3 will probably already see it but it will not have any content yet.
Yeah TVersity is the easiest way to do it. Showed up instantly for me as long as you on same network.
Seconded! And fyi, for whatever reason Vista SP1 screws up MP11's ability to see PS3s. Surprise surprise. So if you're running Vista, you may be attempting to fix an unfixable problem.
